This standard describes the educator's knowledge of how different learners develop and grow.
Educator should be able to recognize patterns of learning that vary across different categories such as linguistic,
social, emotional, and cognitive.
Educator should be able to develop challenging and appropriate learning experiences.
Example of implementing this standard might be: An educator that varies their teaching techniques (i.e: visual
lessons, auditory lessons, tactile lessons) because he/she acknowledges that some students learn differently than
others.
STANDARD #2 “LEARNING DIFFERENCES”
Educator recognizes and understands different ways of learning and performance and bases their lessons
accordingly.
Educator is able to recognize when students are gifted/talented and may need additional support or
accommodations and is able to provide those things for said student.
Educator creates and delivers instruction that allows students to demonstrate their unique ways of learning.
Educator acknowledges that each students experiences, culture, language, and community can influence their way
of learning.
An example of implementing this standard might be: An educator who identifies a student that may require extra
help learning the language and is able to distinguish an ELL student from a student who requires special education
services.
STANDARD #3 “LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS”
Educator knows how to keep students not only engaged in learning but also motivated to succeed and progress
in their learning.
Educator is able to collaborate well with other educators/ school staff to ensure a safe and productive learning
environment.
Educator is also able to collaborate with students, and families to ensure a safe and open environment to discuss
education and how to help each student succeed individually.
Educator promotes using technologies in an effective and appropriate way to learn.
Educator uses a myriad of teaching methods to keep students engaged and learning.
An example of implementing this standard might be: An educator who uses a reward/ competition system to
motivate their students to stay engaged and participating in the lesson.
STANDARD #4 “CONTENT KNOWLEDGE”
Educator knows not only the main concepts of a discipline but also common mistakes made when learning the
discipline so he/she can anticipate mistakes being made and how to correct them.
Educator is able to correctly use academic language and terms in their lessons.
Educator is able to provide the same information in multiple forms so that all different types of learners are able
to understand and learn the discipline.
Educator has a vast understanding of student content standards and learning progressions that apply to their
discipline.
An example of implementing this standard might be: An educator who teaches their students the definitions of
“numerator” and “denominator” (academic language) when delivering a lesson on fractions instead of referring to
them as “top/bottom” numbers.
STANDARD #5 “APPLICATION OF CONTENT”
Educator understands the idea of critical thinking, how it applies to his/her discipline, and how to teach students
the ability to use critical thinking skills.
Educator understands various forms of communication and how to use and implement them in the classroom to
ensure all students are learning.
Educator knows how to access resources and implement them into their teaching methods.
Educator engages students by applying material to the real world.
Educator can design assignments or projects that cross between multiple subjects so students learn about more
than one concept in a single assignment.
An example of implementing this standard might be: An educator showing a student how to calculate sales tax
and explain that’s how it will be done in the real world when making purchases so that a student knows how to
calculate it outside of the classroom.
STANDARD #6 “ASSESSMENT”
Educator understands the cognitive processes associated with different forms of instruction.
Educator is well versed on various forms of instruction and applies them in the classroom.
Educator knows and uses various forms of communication with those around them to ensure the best learning
environment.
Educator monitors students’ progress and alters instructional strategies when necessary.
Educator is able to provide the same information to students in multiple forms so that the different types of
learners all understand.
An example of implementing this standard might be: An educator notices that if she give directions verbally she
has to repeat multiple steps to multiple students so he/she begins to present instructions in written form as well
as verbal form.
STANDARD #9 “ PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND ETHICAL
PRACTICE”
The framework is a research based set of components of instruction, aligned to the INTASC standards, and
grounded in a constructivist view of learning and teaching (Danielson Group).
There 4 domains that make up the Danielson Framework: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Environment,
Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities.
The 4 domains align with the 10 Idaho State Standards
