Tiananmen Square - Symbol of China

Everyday, the national flag is raised in the morning.

There’s also a flag down ceremony everyday in the
evening.

Forbidden City is called so because until a few decades

ago, the palace was not open to commoners.
Tiananmen Square
• When it was first built in the 15th year
of Yongle (1417), it was called
Chengtian Gate.
• It was twice destroyed in the Ming
Dynasty, once by lightning, once by war.
• In 1651, or the 8th year of Emperor
Shunzhi's reign in the Qing Dynasty, the
Emperor named Fulin had it rebuilt on a
large scale and changed its name to
Tiananmen.
• Imposing and magnificent, it stands out
among ancient city gates in China.
Palace
Museum or
Forbidden City

• Completed in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty, the Forbidden City occupies a
total space of more than 720, 000 square meters.
• Apart from the complex of immovable palace buildings, the Palace Museum
houses over 1.5 million items or sets of relics.
• Ancient architectural relics and other cultural relics fall into 25 categories,
which are further divided into 69

• Works of art such as porcelain, paintings and
calligraphy, jewelry, clocks, stone drums,
and bronze wares are kept in special halls.

Temple

• Lama Temple is one of the key historic sites under

national protection.
• It is one of the largest lamaseries of Tibetan Buddhism
that remain in Beijing.
• At first it was the residence of Emperor Yongzheng before
he was crowned.
• In the years of Qianlong it was changed into a lamasery,
and began to serve as the headquarters of the Qing
government's administration of Tibetan Buddhism affairs.
Summer Palace

• Its 70,000 square meters of building

space features a variety of palaces,
gardens and other ancient-style
architectural structures.
• It has a huge collection of precious
historical and architectural artifacts.

Summer Palace

or the Garden of Clear Ripples, was first constructed
in 1750.
• It was razed to the ground by the Anglo-French Allied Forces in 1860.
• The Government of the Qing Dynasty started to rebuild it in 1886
with funds that it had misappropriated from the Imperial Navy and
other sources.
• Renamed two years later as Yihe Yuan or the Garden of Health and
Harmony, it was supposed to serve as a summer resort for the
Empress Dowager Cixi.
Great Wall of China
• The Badaling Great Wall is located
on the ridge of the northern part
of the GuanGou. Here, between
two peaks, there is an alley and
it's a very strategic place.
