AND MANAGEMENT
POLLUTION
Is defined as the introduction of
man into environment of
substance or energy liable
cause hazards to human health,
harm the living resources and
ecological damage, or
interference with the
legitimate use of the
environment .
What is meant by
hazardous?
Hazardous implies that there
is some chance that an
organism will be exposed to a
substance and that the
exposure will result in harm.
What is considered as
hazardous materials?
Hazardous materials are any
solid, liquid, or gaseous
waste which due to its
quantity, waste
concentration or physical,
chemical or infectious
characteristic.
AIR POLLUTION
Air pollution is one of the
most serious environmental
problems result from the
rapid industrialization and
increase transportation
volume.
TYPES OF AIR POLLUTION
-SMOG
-Green House Effect
-Accidental air Pollution:
-Industrial Air Pollution
-Transport Related Air
Pollution
Sources of Air Pollution
1. Area sources refers to
population coming from
residential, construction and
other related activities.
2. Mobile sources are those
vehicular emission .
3. Stationary sources are
those from the industrial,
commercial and utilities’
smoke stacks.
Air Pollution in the Philippines
Deterioration of air quality
is a major problem in the
Philippines particularly in
Metro Manila and its
surrounding areas.
The major source of pollutants
for the urban areas include
vehicular emissions, emissions
from industrial processes and
combustion of fuel from power
plants, industries and
commercial establishments.
Major Air Pollutants
1. Particulate Matter
2. Sulfur Oxides
3. Lead
4. Carbon Monoxide
5. Chlorofluorocarbons
6. Dioxins

OF WATER BODIES.
Types and Sources of Water
Pollution
1. Physical – this are floating or
suspended materials found in
water.
2. Chemical-is another type of
pollution. It is defined as the
introduction of chemicals into
the water.
3. Biological- The sources can
be both natural and man-
made, but certainly the most
common source is human
waste.
Contaminants
Generator of Malodorous Gases
Toxicity of Water
Eutrophication
Proliferation of pathogenic
microorganisms
Impairment of aesthetics
Interference with the transmission
of sunlight
Land Pollution
The deposition of solid or liquid
waste materials on land or
underground in a manner that
can contaminate
the soil and groundwater,
threaten public health, and
cause unsightly conditions and
nuisances.
