TLS 321: Service Learning

❖ Learning Objective: Since animals and community are a big part of


SSCS’s philosophy and we just got baby chicks, I wanted to connect my
lesson plan to our communities surroundings and have the kiddos
connect the art, book, and movement activity to what has been going
on at school.
NAEYC Standards
1. Standard 8: Community Relationships
The staff develop professional relationships with community agencies and
organizations that further the program’s capacity to meet the needs and
interests of children and families.

-by bringing in baby chicks

2. Standard 9: Physical Environment

The facility is designed so that staff can supervise all children by sight and sound.

-staff bring out chickens during outside play while other staff supervise at a
different area

Art Lesson
Paint “Zippity Doo-Dah Cluck” our classrooms chicken that we got to name
or any chicken/chick.

Learning Objective: Able to recognize animal and verbalize/dictate about the


picture to teacher of what he/she drew and connect it to the work of art and
book we read.

Materials: yellow paint, yellow feathers, white paper
