ADVERB WITH QUALIFIER • Adverb phrase which is a combination of an adverb with a qualifier can occupy an adverv of manner function Example: • He drives extremely slowly (Adverb of manner: slowly ; Qualifier: extremly) • Every waitress should clean tables quickly enough (Adverb of manner: quickly ; Qualifier: enough) Prepositional Phrase • Prepositional phrase is a type of phrase that consists of preposition and object and serves as an adverb. • Prepositional phrases can replace the five most important adverb above. Example: • Time : They couldn’t do anything during the storm. • Manner : The customer always pays the bill with his debit card. • Place : i’m on a flight to Bandung. • Frequency : Old people may need to see a doctor every year. • Purpose : He bought this tiramisu cake for you. Infinitve Phrase • An infinity phrase is the infinitive form of a verb plus any complements and modifiers • Infinitive phrase will start with an infinitive (to + simple verb), sometimes eqquiped with an object or modifier to complete its meaning. This infinitive phrase can function as noun, adjective or adverb Example: • He helped to build the roof. • The officer returned to help the inspectors. • Let me show you the best way to fit a door quickly. We studied at mining engineering department to be a real miner. (Answer : Infinity phrase; to be a real miner.) 3. Every mining company mines using mining equipment. (Answer : Prepositional phrase; mining equipment Clause of Condition • Clause of condition is an adverb in the form of a conditional sentece. Clause of conditional sentence is also called conditional sentece, if clause or adverb clause of condition.
