Master: In master all the mandatory servers are running, virtual IP is associated with hardware (MAC)
address using aliased eth interface and database gets updated from traps received from NEs
Slave: In slave only the hotstandby server running, virtual IP is not associated with hardware (MAC)
address and database snapshot is obtained from master by vsftpd
Virtual IP: It is the common IP associated with both master and the slave machine

Normal Operation
• In the normal mode of operation, the machine with highest priority will act as master machine and
the other machines will act as slave Machines

 Machine failure or the application failure


• In case of machine failure or the application failure, the slave machines will not receive consecutive
heartbeats
• Slave machines examine the network conditions
• If master machine has failed, all slave machines exchange general take over messages with priority
• Finally the one with highest priority will become master

Forced switch

• Log into the TejEMS client with the appropriate user access profile
• Click Tools> Hotstandby - ForcedSwitch. The list of sever slave IPs page is displayed
• Select the IP of the machine to which forced switch to be performed.Click forced switch

 Link Failure between master and slave machines


• In case of link failure between the master and the slave machines, the slave machines will not
receive consecutive heartbeats
• The network element traps are still sent to the master machine as there is no failure in the machine
• There is no switch over from master to slave, the master continues to be master machine

• The network element traps are sent to the next priority slave machine
• There is switch over from master to slave. The slave machine will be the master machine

Login and Logout

 To login to the EMS client:


• Open a web browser session
open URL http://<Virtual IP>/web/Ems.html
Enter the user name, password and virtual IP
in the Server IP field
• To launch a client from the machine, which is
one of the EMS servers, double click the TejNMS
Icon on the desktop and enter username, password, server IP
and click login

 Login to the UI with default


User Name: administrator
Password: tejas

 To logout
Go to file menu and select exit.
A prompt indicating “Do you really want to quit”
is displayed, select “Yes” to logout EMS

 Actual physical topology of the


entire network managed by the EMS

 A node in a network is represented


by a rectangle and name of the node

 The fiber connectivity between the

 To access the Fiber view


• Log in to the TejEMS client with the appropriate user access profile
• Click Layers > Fiber View or click .The fiber view page is displayed
 To add a live node to the network
• Right click in the Fiber View window and select Add Node. The Add Node window is displayed
• Enter the IP address (Router ID) of the node that is to be added to the network against the IP Address field
• Check the box “Is GNE” for the gateway network element
• Click Apply

 To automatically add the nodes


• Type the following commands on Linux Console:
/opt/NMS/release/bin/AppClient status EMS DiscoveryD
• If it is running then it will show RUNNING else start the server with the following command:
/opt/NMS/release/bin/AppClient start EMS DiscoveryD.
Adding the GNE manually will now add all the nodes reachable from GNE, automatically.

 To add an offline node to the network


• Right click in the Fiber View window and select Add offline node. The Add offline node window is
displayed
• Enter the IP Address(Router ID), configuration file URL, type, and name of the node against
the corresponding fields

To find a node


• Click Layers > Fiber View or click . The fiber view page is displayed
• Right click in the Fiber View window and select Find Node option
• The Node can be searched either with the names (either complete name or with string of alphabets to be
matched) or with the IP

 To add a dummy trunk between the network elements

• Right click in the Fiber View window and select Add dummy trunk. The Add dummy trunk window is
displayed
• Enter the ports between which dummy trunk is to be added.
• Click Apply

 To provision order wire segments for multiple nodes


• Select the trunks connecting the nodes and right click in the fiber view window
• Click Create Order wire. The Planned Order wire Segments window is displayed
• Select the appropriate values against the Carrier Byte (either E1 or E2), Segment number, and Port

• The user can view the current Alarms

 Management View gives the management


connectivity details between Tejas nodes

Switch view

The Switch View displays all the switches in the network.

Each ELAN card is represented as an


individual switch.

will display all the switches

Field Description
Node Name: Displays the node name of the respective switch
Switch Name: Displays the switch name. For example Switch-1-6-0 where 1 is Chassis
index, 6 is Slot index and 0 is Port index.
Mac Address: Displays the MAC address of the switch
VLAN Version Number: Displays the default version number for the VLANs which
is prescribed by the VLAN standard.
Max Vlan Id: Displays the maximum range of VLAN Id (4094). Indicates the
maximum number which can be used as a VLAN id by the user.
Max Supported Vlans: Displays the maximum number of Vlans that can be supported.
Current VLAN: Displays the number of Vlans in the node currently.

Spanning Tree Admin Mode: Enable


Disable
Bridge Forward Delay (sec.): Displays the time taken for a switch running the STP
protocol to transition from the listening state to the learning state, and from the learning
state to the forwarding state.
Bridge Forward Delay (sec.): Displays the time interval in which a STP BPDU.
Bridge Hello Time(sec.):
Bridge Max Hops: Displays the maximum number of hops supported over a LAN
which can be controlled by a STP algorithm.
Bridge Tag Mode: .1Q

Bridge Ports: Displays the ports on the switch which are available for use. This includes
both the ethernet ports which face the customer equipment and the VCG ports which are
on the provider side.

the network

To access circuit details

• Click Layers > Service view or click .


• Right click on the particular trunk and select circuits.
• Circuit window is displayed. Right click on the particular circuit and see the circuit state, granularity,
command status, path view and path list.

Note: Creation of the circuit is dealt in configuration management but the details of the configured circuits

can be viewed in the service view.

Partition View

 The partition view in EMS enables you to view


the entire network in parts/sections that
facilitates network management

 Sections/partitions can be created in a network


that are reflected as single entity in the
partition view

 The color of the partition indicates the highest


severity alarm present in the partition

 To access the current alarms

• To view current alarms at the network level, click current alarms icon. A list of all the current alarms in
the network irrespective of the severity is displayed
• To view current alarms in the network based on the severity, click the current alarm icon
• To view the current alarms on specific objects, right click the object and select Alarms > Current
Alarms. A list of current alarms raised on that object is displayed

 To acknowledge the current alarms


• In the view current alarms page. Right click on the particular alarm and select acknowledge.
• Note1: Acknowledge will display the acknowledged by and acknowledge message
• Note2: Acknowledging alarms from EMS will not acknowledge alarm in NES

 To configure the alarms

 To view historic alarms at the network level


• To view historical alarms at the network level,Click the historical alarms icon. The Filter - History
Alarms window is displayed
• Check the desired criteria field and enter/select the parameters against the fields to specify the filtering
criteria
• Click Apply. A list of all the historical alarms in the network that satisfy the criteria is displayed

To view the historical alarms on specific objects


• To view the historical alarms on specific objects, Right click the object and select Alarms > Historical
Alarms.The Filter History Alarms window is displayed
• Check the desired criteria field and enter/select the parameters values against the fields to specify the
filtering criteria
• Click Apply. A list of all the historical alarms associated with that object is displayed

Note1: Network level alarms include NES level alarms and EMS specific alarms Eg., node out of reach,
node config out of sync

To configure the node time – Node time configuration allows the nodes to be in sync
with respect to time with the NTP server

• Click Layers > Fiber View or click


• Right click on the required node and select Set Time. The corresponding Node Time window is
displayed
• Enter time, time zone, NTP server details
• Click Apply

 To reboot the node – Individual node can be given service disruptive / non service
disruptive reboot

• Click Layers > Fiber View or click


• Right click the required node
• Click Reboot > Cold to give a non-service disruptive reboot or click Reboot > Service Disruptive to
give a service disruptive reboot. A prompt for a confirmation on the reboot is displayed
• Click no to return to the Fiber View or click yes to reboot the node

 To set the attributes of a node – Ethernet IP can be configured for individual nodes
• Click Layers > Fiber View or click
• Double click the desired node or Right click on the desired node and select Attributes. The
corresponding node attributes window is displayed
• Enter the name, location and Ethernet IP and mask length of the node
• Click Apply

 To view the shelf details of a network element – Gives the view of live cards on the node
• Click Layers > Fiber View or click
• Right click on the desired node and click Attributes
• Right click on the attributes window and click Shelf. The corresponding node Shelf window is
displayed
• To view the card details right click the shelf details and select Card. The corresponding Card details
window is displayed

 To view the card parameters – Allows individual port level configuration

• Click Layers > Fiber View or click


• Right click on the required node and select Equipment View. The corresponding equipment view
window is displayed which gives access to the attributes of individual PDH/Eth and SDH ports
• This window gives information about the cards that make up the network element. The ports on
the cards, and the associated alarms can be configured from this window
• Right click the desired card/port and select attributes to view/set the attributes of the
selected card/port
• Select the appropriate value against the Admin Status field and click OK
• To access the Alarms associated with cards/ports, click Alarms > Current Alarms/Historical Alarms
accordingly

To provision the MSP Group – Configuration for port level protection
• Click Layers > Fiber View or click
• Right click on the desired node and click Attributes
• Right click on the attributes window
• Click Provisioning > MSP Groups. The Port Protection window is displayed
• Enter the work port, protect port, switch mode, revertion mode
• Click Apply.

To create a cross connect – Selecting the source and destination port for traffic flow
• Click Layers > Fiber View or click
• Right click on the desired node and click Attributes
• Right click on the attributes window
• Click Provisioning > Create Cross Connects. The Cross Connect window is displayed
• Select the capacity source port, source time slot, source protection mode, source reversion mode, source
destination port, destination time slot, destination protection mode and destination reversion mode
• Click Apply

 To create circuits - Selecting the path between the source and destination node,
and creating a circuit allows creation of all the cross connections required between
the source, destination and intermediate nodes at a single go.

• In the Fiber View, select the source and destination node. Right click and select the shortest path.
• The shortest path is highlighted.
• Right click in the window and select Add circuit. The create circuit window is displayed
• Enter the number of copies(no of circuits to be created), no of links(no of channels within a VCG---only
for ethernet circuits), granularity, source port, source time slot, destination port, destination time slot and

service identifier
• Lower part of the create circuit window displays the information of trunk connectivity between the source
and destination node. Select the K-L-M values.
• Click ok
• Right click on the created circuit. Select provisioning>provision

Note: Circuit provisioning process displays partially provisioned in circuit command status column
indicating that all the crossconnections required for circuit is not been created.The reason could be
configuration mismatch on the PDH cards for eg Card configured as E1 on say source and destination card
configured for DS1

To add protection to a circuit – A protection path can be defined for any circuit,
allows creation of all the cross connections required between the source, destination
and intermediate nodes at a single go for the protection path

• Right click on the particular circuit and select protection > add manual protect path
• Add protect path window displayed. Select the straight lines>right click >add protect path
• Circuit window displayed. Select the timeslots for protection and click add
• Manual addition success window displayed.
• Right click on the circuit.Select provisioning>provision

 To schedule circuit provisioning - Provisioning start and end time can be defined for any
circuit. The circuit is provisioned at the start time defined and unprovisioned at the end
time defined
• Right click the desired circuit in the Tjcircuit window and click Provisioning>schedule provisioning.
• Enter the start and stop time for provisioning the circuit against the Provision Start Time and
Provision End Time fields.Select the repeat option which defines the repetition of circuit on
daily/weekly/monthly or yearly basis
• Click Apply

 To filter the circuits in the network – A particular circuit can be filtered from the list of
circuits created

• Click Tools >Filter> Circuit. The Filter-TjCircuit window is displayed


• Check the field(s) that you choose as the criteria for filtering, and enter the appropriate values
against them
• Click Apply. Another window containing the match cases is displayed
• Double click an entry in the filtered list to access its attributes

 To create a trace circuit for PDH port - If a circuit is deleted without unprovisioning, we
can trace the circuit by selecting the particular source/destination PDH port through

the equipment view and giving the trace circuit option

• Click Layers > Fiber View or click


• Right Click the source or destination node in the Fiber view window
• Click equipment view
• Right click the desired PDH_port >and click attributes
• The Port_PDH window containing the port number is displayed
• Click the desired port and click trace circuit
• If the circuit exists on that port, a trace circuit window containing the circuit path information will be
displayed else an error message will be displayed

To create trace circuit window for ETH card - If an ethernet circuit is deleted without
unprovisioning, we can trace the circuit by selecting the particular source/destination
ethernet port through the equipment view and giving the trace circuit option

• Click Layers > Fiber View or click


• Right Click the source or destination node in the Fiber view window
• Click equipment view
• Right click on the Ethernet card
• Click VCG/port_ETH, the window containing a list of VCG associations or the Ethernet circuits will
be displayed

 To create a trace circuit for TU - If a TU circuit is deleted without unprovisioning, we


can trace the circuit by selecting the particular source/destination TU through the
equipment view and giving the trace circuit option

• Right Click on any one of the aggregate ports and click AUG

To create higher order trail - Instead of creating individual lower order cross
connections in the pass through nodes a higher order trail can be created between the
pass through nodes and then add lower order cross connections between the source
and destination nodes
• Click Layers > Fiber View or click
• Select the trunks through which the higher order trail has to be created
• Right click in the fiber view ->Add Circuit. The Create Circuit window is displayed
• Enter the granularity-VC4, source port, destination port and identifier and check the box create higher
order trunk. Click ok.
• Right click on the planned circuit in New circuit window-> click Provisioning
• Higher order trail reflects as a AU4 trunk between the source and destination nodes in the fiber view
• The lower order trails can be added by selecting the higher order trail trunk and then Right click in the fiber
view > Add circuit. The Create Circuit window is displayed
• Enter the granularity, source port, destination port and identifier.Click ok

 To view path list through table view - Path list displays the complete PDH, SDH and
KLM details of the circuit created port details

 To configure an order wire – Order wire channel can be configured by selecting the
path between the source and destination node, which creates a 64kbps channel for
voice communication between the source and destination node

path to the nodes in a network connected through ethernet interface.OSPF global
enable allows to detect the shortest path to the nodes in a network connected through
optical interface
