EE Options in Textile

Motor Efficiency Improvement:

 Existing inefficient motors can be replaced by the energy
efficient motors
 Options of energy efficiency improvement by 10-20%.
 Retrofit measures like Intelligent motor controller, Variable
Frequency Drive (VFD), Servo mechanism, PF Improvement
etc. may payback within 1-3 years

Energy Efficiency Options…………contd.

Boiler Efficiency Improvement:

Through proper combustion control, chemical dosing, regular
maintenance etc., efficiency can be improved by 5-6%.

Steam Use Efficiency Improvement:

Steam line insulation, leak & trap management, condensate
recovery etc. has about 5-10% energy savings potential.

Energy Efficiency Options…………contd.
Lighting Efficiency Improvement:
By replacing T-8 lights with the LED lights and other efficient
lighting, efficiency of about 50% can be achieved. The pay-back is
approximately 1 to 1.5 years.

Waste Heat Recovery:

Where engine based captive power is used, 15-20% energy can be
saved through recovery from engine exhaust;

Compressed Air leakage maintenance:

5-7% can be saved through proper management.

GIZ’s Intervention: Energy Audit in Textile in Brief

Phase 1: Selection of 3 composite textile for walkthrough audit

Phase 2: Selection of 1 high potential industry by walk-through energy audits

Phase 3: Investment grade Energy Audit at the selected industry

Phase 4: Pilot Project Implementation arrangement with Industry management

Phase 5: Leveraging finance from Bank/FI

Phase 6: Pilot Project Implementation

Phase 7: Monitoring Protocol design and Training for Industry

Business Case: Textile Sector
- Significant long-term results: Energy efficiency measures can pay back
quickly, and deliver returns for years:

~ 32% ~ 3 years ~ 25%

Energy Efficiency Simple payback IRR
Potential

- For sectoral transformation, more than billion USD is needed.
