Action: Monitor hole cleaning to reduce
Wiper Trips frequency and
Promote inhibition with:
•Ca++ 400-700 ppm
Monitor if equipment used is
able to handle gumbo problem. • Max 1000 gpm @ Inc=10.
Max RPM allowed by motor.

Description: Stuck Pipe by Pack Off
Responsible: DD DL TFM
• If circulating, at first signal reduce pump strokes to half. When possible to circulate,
Action: • If get pack off, shut pumps off.
• If pressure get trapped, bleed off slowly at 300 psi/min (may be not possible if float valve) to 500 psi.
apply same contingencies as
described above.
• Start cycling drill string up to make up torque without moving drill string. Last resource: Leave surfactant
• Monitor shakers and pressure to check if possible to circulate. on bottom and let it work
• If possible to circulate, pump to clean hole with max pressure 500 psi. before check free point.
• If not possible, move pipe between free up and down weights while cycling.
• After 2 hours, if pipe is not free increase slowly trapped pressure to 1500 psi and continue working.
• If pipe is not free after full circulation or still not possible to circulate after 4 hours, discuss possibility
of jarring in the opposite direction of last movement before pack off.

If balling while drilling: •Stop drilling and lift off bottom. • Stop tripping
Action: •Add Walnut @1sx/min & 2 drums of detergent for 20 min.
If balling while tripping or unsuccessful unballing:
•Increase flow rate to the maximum
for at least 5 minutes.
• Pump to clean bit and BHA
• Ream down that section until slack
•Pump and spot at the bit 20 bbls of fresh water •Spin the bit as fast as possible to off weights get normal values.
• Pump 30 bbl pills w/ 15 -20 sxs walnut med & 2 drums of ‘fling’ the material off. • After reaming down, ensure
drilling detergent without stopping •Lift and drop the string rapidly to circulation until clean above BHA.
• Pump 30 bbls of mud mixed with 2 drums of Drilling ‘shake’ the formation off.
Detergent soak. Spot 30 min. •Drill with less weight until
• 3 drums of Glymax in 50 bbls mud and soak for 50 min. lithology change.
