Problem Statement

Monoethylene glycol (MEG) is extensively used in oil and gas industry specifically
to inhibit gas hydrate formation which restrict the flow of oil and gas production in
the pipeline. However, this chemical inhibitor is used at high concentration which
is not economical. Thus, advanced on the potential of quarternary ammonium
salts (QAS) as dual function for gas hydrate and corrosion inhibitor is required as
an alternative to MEG.
OBJECTIVE

 Physiochemical testing of the quarternary ammonium salts

 To evaluate physical and chemical properties of quarternary ammonium salts

for potential application in gas hydrate inhibition

 To study the corrosion inhibition performance of selected materials

Scope of Work

Quarternary Ammonium Salts (QAS) chosen for this study includes Tetramethyl
Ammonium Bromide (TMAB), Tetraethyl Ammonium Bromide (TMEB), Tetramethyl
Ammonium Iodide (TMAI) and Tetraethyl Ammonium Iodide (TEAI). These samples will be
prepared and tested in the laboratory. The nature of this study specifically focusing on
evaluating the chemical and physical properties as well as the potential of the samples in
inhibiting hydrate formation and corrosion.
METHODOLOGY

Physical Testing
 Viscosity - Viscometer
 Density – Densitometer
 Surface Tension – Potentiometer
 pH – pH meter
