PRACTICAL STAGES
• from the 1st until the 5th year of studies,
students must work in university affiliated
hospitals, medical centres or clinics as part
of their summer practice for a minimum of
4 weeks per year (20 days, 8 hours/day =
160 hrs), amounting to at least 800 hours
over the span of five years.
FINAL EXAMINATIONS
• Lastly, during their 6th year of studies,
students have to write a dissertation based
on personal research on a topic assigned
with their instructor and can opt for an
internship or rotation practice
• final State licensing examination, upon
successful completion of which the Degree
awarded confers upon the holder all the
rights and privileges of a Medical Doctor
(MD)..
• After graduation, physicians have to pass
an exam in order to enter residency
training and specialization/ duration 5
years ( 6 years for neurosurgery, 3 years
for family medicine) takes three years,
and public health and health
management four years.

Romania (two for dentists)
Nurse education
• the term medical assistant is used for
nurse.
• The professional title of medical assistant
addresses general medical assistants as
well as medical assistants trained in other
specialties.

• Nurses can specialize in several
disciplines: laboratory, public health and
hygiene, balneo-physiotherapy, radiology,
nutrition. Specialization takes one year
CME
• Continuing professional development is required
for both medical doctors (including dentists) and
nurses.
• professional associations set the educational
standards and the criteria for periodical
accreditation of their respective professions.
• - every five years through the accumulation of a
sufficient number of continuous education
points. If the minimum number of points has not
been achieved, the doctor or nurse must pass
revalidation exams.

EMTs and paramedics

Emergency Medical
Technician
• primary care provider in the pre-hospital
setting.
• provides basic life support, including
patient assessment, airway management,
and use of the automatic defibrillator and
assisting patients with taking some of their
own medications.
• responsible for driving the ambulance
• work under the direction of a Paramedic
and assume a support role.
Paramedics
• emergency medical technician with
additional advanced training to perform
more difficult pre-hospital medical
procedures.
• provide both basic and advanced life
support, including comprehensive patient
assessment, invasive airway management,
cardiac monitoring and administration of
medications.
Paramedic
• a leadership role working with a small
team of lesser-trained pre-hospital care
providers.
• responsible for verbal communication with
the patient, other pre-hospital providers
and hospital personnel, including
physician medical directors.
• completes extensive written
documentation on patient condition and
treatment provided
Paramedic education
• Nurses, regardless of their specialization,
can work at SMURD service if they attend
paramedical courses at the Emergency
Situations Inspectorates.
