Types of Graphics
Raster Graphics
• A raster image is also
known as“bitmap”,
which is data displayed
on a grid of pixels
• Adobe Photoshop
creates pixel based
images and can edit
these types of files
• Raster images are large
in file size
Vector Graphics?
•Instead of using pixels,
vector graphics are
created with
mathematics
•Vector Graphics are
also called “Object Art”
because all shapes and
colors are created by the
outlines of objects

Introducing Adobe Illustrator
Illustrator:
Illustrator is a vector drawing program. It is often used
to draw illustrations, cartoons, diagrams, charts and
logos. Unlike bitmap images that stores information in
a grid of dots, Illustrator uses mathematical equations
to draw out the shapes. This makes vector graphics
scalable without the loss of resolution.

where the image appears when printed.
The scratch area appears outside the workspace and
can be used to assemble or edit designs.
The menu bar contains most general commands.
The Control palette displays options related to selected
objects.
Magnification levels are displayed next to the file name
