• Jonah 1:1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai,

saying,
• 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is
come up before me.
• 3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and
went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare
thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the
presence of the LORD.
• 4 But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty
tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
• 5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast
forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But
Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
• 6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O
sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we
perish not.
• 7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may
know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell
upon Jonah.
• 8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is
upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy
country? and of what people art thou?
• 9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of
heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
• 10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou
done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD,
because he had told them.
• 11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be
calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
• 12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall
the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon
you.
• 13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could
not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
• 14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD,
we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us
innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
• 15 So they look up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased
from her raging.
• 16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the
LORD, and made vows.
• 17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah
was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
THE HARD HEADED
CHRISTIAN
• Hard headed Christians can get you in trouble
• Its dangerous to be hard headed especially to
God
• How tragic to be hard headed
• There’s a lot of hard headed people in the bible
(Saul, Adam, Samson)

• Jonah is a hard headed believer, he is not

unbeliever
• He was called by God not by anyone else
• With a very special task, as God himself talk to
him.
• Jonah 3:1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the
second time, saying,
• 2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto
it the preaching that I bid thee.(repentance)
• 3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to
the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding
great city of three days' journey (1).
• 4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's (2)
journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh
shall be overthrown.
• 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed
a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them
even to the least of them.
• 6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose
from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and
covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
• Jonah is a good preacher, only one preacher
but he make the whole city repent, even a
king
• An extra ordinay rare type of preacher
• All recorded preacher in the bible has no
match with Jonah
• The Fish Belly Institute make him an
effective preacher
• As always, No tragedy no seriousness with
our ministry.
• Nineveh as a cruel place
• The city of Nineveh is described in Genesis 10:11 as having been
founded by Nimrod, the hunter who built the tower of Babel and
led the world into a rebellion against God.
• The military rulers were a brutal breed. They ruled their empire
and subdued nations with absolute terror.
• A great city (as described by God) and a capital city of Assyria with
120T people(4:11)
• The wall is 120 ft tall, 3 chariots wide is the wall
• Great commercial known for gold, silver, rich city with fine building
• Wall terrified the enemy
• When they attacked other city they destroyed, demolished and
burn
• They peeled off enemies skin and use for decorative as well as their
skulls
• When they killed their soldiers enemies they take the blood mixed
with wine and drink for celebration
• Drag the king, hang it in the trees for fouls feeding , (if not be
headed)
• They took their warriors prisoner and impaled them on stakes
before their cities.
• They stripped the nobles skin and spread their skins on the piles
• Alive they cut off their captives hands, noses, ears and fingers;
• They pluck out the eyes of many of the soldiers
• The children fall in line while the chariots wheels at side with
swords passed to them while their parents watches them killed.
• They slew two hundred and sixty fighting men; cut off their
heads and made pyramids.
• They covered the wall with their skins.
• Some of them were enclosed alive in the bricks of the wall,
• some of them were crucified on stakes along the wall
• They gathered together the heads in the form of crowns, and
their pierced bodies in the form of garlands."
• That’s what the people in Nineveh
• That’s why Jonah don’t want to go there, will you if
you are Jonah?
• Now I understand Jonah
• Nineveh also is there enemy, Jonah don’t want them
to be saved
• Here in the church we are brothers but sometimes
we don’t want our brothers to be saved (what will
happened in heaven)
• Some brethren hate you driving new car, new job
and being bless
• Why because they don’t want to see you being
blessed and overcoming them
• Now we know that Jonah don’t want to go there
because they are enemy
• But God teaching Jonah, to go back to the people
you hate, and love them, wow!
• Its hard for your enemy to understand
• He kicks you at the back and the more he do it the
more he will left behind because your advancing
forward
• Now you understand why you need to love your
enemies
• Jonah don’t want to go to Nineveh;
• 4:2- When I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled
before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a
gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of
great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
• What will happen if God is like me
• I thank the lord that he is not like me
• Jonah went to opposite direction, Tarshish, doing
other things
• TARSHISH: (Atlantic coast of Spain)
• A ship of Tarshish, a big ship used in long voyage for
trade, (so not possible for sinking)
• Take note :
• The ship where Jonah rode has only voyage twice a
year to Tarshish
• Means the trip for Tarshish were only twice a year
• What a lucky trip it is available when Jonah plan to
get away from God’s order trip
• Take note when you plan to make an opposite
trip as what God instructed you
• When you are fleeing from the will of God
• Transportation is always available
• The Devil will arranged your trip going to Tarshish
• Some of us if we are not doing God’s will we are
shipping to Tarshish
• Not doing responsibilities in Church, because we
found a ship going to Tarshish
• Jonah Pays his own
• 1:3 - so he paid the fare thereof, and went down
• He lost something here because it is not in the
will of God
• You will lost more if you are doing things not in
the will of God. (Philip)
• If you want to do what you only want to do, you
always spend money for it
• Now I know why some has no money,
• Even you will put your face from time to time to
get money, the money will get away from you,
• ..because your paying your own trip,
• A trip that is not in the will of God
• Take note;
• When you sin, you run from God, you pay your
own death way
• Sin will caused you no money everytime you get
out of the will of God.
• Kung magpakatino lang tayo baka hindi lang
ganyang blessings ang inienjoy natin sa ngayon.
• Nineveh Status
• Nineveh is not mentioned again in Scripture till the
days of Jonah, when it is described as a great and
popular city.
• But every empire is like a human life,
• When judgment had come, our lives will end and
the only thing left to us will be our relationship with
God,
• We will be accounted while standing in front of Him
sooner.
• It is interesting to note that after the fall of Nineveh,
the Assyrian people did not disappear, they were
simply ruled by others.
• Assyrians were some of the first converts by the
earlier church and they became a thriving Christian
community sending missionaries through out
the eastern world, reaching souls. (including us)
• Because they truly repented of their sins
• True repentance, will turn you last, and reap a
genuine Christians
• Today there is still an Assyrian Church with an
amazing history and communities throughout the
world.
• Thanks for Nineveh repentance, that’s why I’m with God
• Saints as like Nineveh; it doesn’t matter if we lost
our fame, great profession and live in simplicity as
long as we are functioning as a worthy man of God
working closely with Him.
• If we are being reproved;
• It isn't a brother or a sister that tells us to do this, to
do that, to be like this and to be like that.
• Or neither your pastor
• But most certainly, IT IS GOD HIMSELF!
• Proverbs 29:1 He, that being often reproved
hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and
that without remedy.
• V12- And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me
forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you:
for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon
you.
• We know the solution with the problem we created.
• GOD SEEKS FOR TRUE WORSHIPPERS,
• AND NOT A HARD HEADED PEOPLE
