Introduction
• The dangers of using plastic is no secret, not
only for our health, it’s also bad for the
environment.
• According to a survey, the average time for a
plastic bottle for completely degrade is at
least 450 years.
• It can even take some bottles to take 1000
years to biodegrade, that’s a long time.
• Ninety percent bottles aren’t even recycled and
about 1.5 million barrels of oil are used every
year to make the bottles and even more royal is
burn transporting them.
• Most of the time, the water inside the bottle has
more contaminants then regular tap water
meaning you could be drinking some serious
problems.
• Plastic pollution is a major problem, we produce
20 times more than we did in 1964 but a third of
that ends up in landfill or the ocean. So by 2050
there could be more plastic in the ocean than
fish.
• We desperately need alternatives just like
Biodegradable bottles.
• You can eat these biodegradable bottles once
you finish the drink inside it. They are made of
wheat bran.
• The wheat bottles biodegrade in just 30-40
days. Compared to years for plastic bottles,
the eatable bottles are alternatives to
polluting bottles.
Development
• As we are fighting against the pollution, we
need to have the following qualities in our
product during development phase.
1) How good is the product resulting from the
development effort?
2)Does it satisfy customers needs?
3)Is it reliable?
4)Product quality is ultimately reflected in the
market share and the price that customers are
willing to pay.
• Some steps that’ll be followed during
development process are:-
• Quality Assurance
• Coordination
• Planning
• Management
• Improvement

refinement Production Ramp-up
Opportunity
• In context to product development, an
opportunity is an idea for a new product.
As we are facing some problems from plastic
bottles so we are looking forward for new
ideas like wheat bottles which are
biodegradable. These bottles will neither
pollute the environment nor human health.
Types of opportunities
• First horizon is the existing solution that we
are using of plastic bottles, which needs a lot
of improvements. They are relatively low risk
opportunity as far as cost is concerned.
• Second horizon is for the existing needs of the
market that we are not using which is of
biodegradable bottles.
• Third horizon is for the future needs which is
dependent upon requirements of our next
generation. (who knows what is coming next)
Product Planning process
• The planning process considers product
development opportunities identified by many
sources just like:-
1)Marketing research
2)Customers
3) Current product development
4) Benchmarking of competitors
• So
We are well aware of the fact after market
research that how desperately we need to
remove the plastic bottles and come up with
the biodegradable bottles. Customers are
asking for biodegradable products with the
same cost they are paying for plastic products!
Identifying Customer Needs
• Identifying customer needs is its self a
process. Following five steps are required in
the process of identifying customer needs.
1)Gather raw data from customers:-
For gathering data, a questionnaire was
floated in different groups. Various responses
were collected from various people, Questions
along with their responses will be explained in
the next phase.
• 2) Interpret the raw data in terms of customer
needs:-
Raw data in terms of customer need was
collected.
61% customers have asked for biodegradable
bottles out of all biodegradable products
89% of the customers have asked for
biodegradable products.
94% of the customers have asked to buy
biodegradable bottles if they were cost effective.
39% of the customers were ready to pay equal
amount although 33% are ready to pay 10% more
for biodegradable bottles.
• 56% customers have rated moderate as price
of the bottle.
• Design of the bottle was rated as least in
importance.
• Hygienic factor was rated most important.
• Durability to oil and heat was rated most
important by 40% and 30% as moderate and
least important.
• Made from environmental friendly material
and convenient to buy was rated most
important by most of the customers.
• Organization of needs:-
The bottles should be convenient to buy,
made from environmental friendly material,
and hygienic are the primary needs of the
customers.
Cost and design of the bottle was put as
secondary priority .
Establish the relative importance of
the need
• As far the establishment of the relative
importance of biodegradable bottles are
concerned, the bottles will be made from
environmental friendly material which will be
hygienic to human health and will never
pollute the environment. Availability of the
bottles is another important factor. Cost of the
bottles have importance on moderate level
and design of the bottle have least importance
.
Product specifications
• Bottles till now were harmful for the
environment and human life as well.
Specifications of the bottles will be that in
comparison with common plastic bottles, they
will be hygienic , environmental friendly .
These bottles will never harm human life
neither they will pollute the environment .
Establishment of specifications
• The target specifications are established after
the customer needs have been identified but
once concept have been generated and the
most promising one’s are selected.
• Customers are demanding for bottles that are
biodegradable in fast time, which are good for
both[ environment and life ]. The
specifications are well established .
