IN THE YEAR 1991 A SEPARATE ALL-RN BARGAINING UNITE UNDER THE PROVISION AND PROTECTION OF THE NLRA (NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS ACT) THE DECISION OPENED THE WAY FOR THE NLRB TO ESTABLISH THE “EIGHT UNIT RULE”, WHICH IDENTIFIES THE EIGHT BARGAINING UNITS IN HOSPITALS. THOSE ARE, NURSES, PHYSICIANS, ALL OTHER PROFESSIONALS TECHNICAL EMPLOYEES, SKILLED MAINTANANCE EMPLOYEES, BUSINESS OFFICE AND CLERICAL EMPLOYEES, ALL OTHER NON PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEES, GUARDS, OCCUPATIONAL UNIONISM MEANS THAT THERE ARE SEPARATE UNIONS FOR EACH OCCUPATION WITH A GIVEN COMPANY AND THAT THESE OCCUPATIONAL GROUPS MIGHT JOIN OTHERS TO LIKE WORK ACROSS BOUNDARIES AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
