A transformation is a general term for four specific ways to manipulate the

shape of a point, a line, or shape. The original shape of the object is called the
pre-image and the final shape and position of the object is the image under the
transformation.

 Translation is a term used in geometry to
describe a function that moves an object a
certain distance. The object is not altered in
TRANSLATIONS any other way. It is not rotated, reflected or re-
sized. ... In a translation, every point of the
object must be moved in the same direction
and for the same distance.

A reflection is a kind of transformation. It is
REFLEXTION 
basically a 'flip' of a shape over the line of
reflection. Very often reflections are
ALSO KNOWN AS performed using coordinate notation as they all
are on this page. The coordinates allow us to
FLIPPING easily describe the image and its preimage.

 A transformation in which a plane figure turns
around a fixed center point. In other words, one
ROTATION point on the plane, the center of rotation, is
fixed and everything else on the plane rotates
about that point by a given angle.

Example: For any rotation, we need to specify the

center, the angle and the direction of rotation.
