PART 3:

PREPARATION
5 MONTHS BEFORE THE EXAM

 Find a reputable review center (recommended)

 Gather review materials

- books/handouts from reliable review centers

- books/notes from previous takers

 Recall some of the concepts and formulas

 Read some of the terms from the materials

START OF CLASSES IN THE REVIEW CENTER

 Allot more time in studying

 Follow the pattern of the schedule of the subjects in the review center
Ex:
Week 1

Monday : Algebra Part 1

Tuesday: Algebra Part 2
Wednesday: Algebra Part 3
Thursday: Trigonometry
Friday: Probability and Statistics
Saturday: Weekly Exam 1
Sunday: Rest Day

 Create your daily routine plan

 Follow it STRICTLY (with DISCIPLINE)

DAILY ROUTINE (MONDAY TO SATURDAY)
Example:
Week: 1
Day: Thursday
Topic in the Review Center: Trigonometry

8 am to 11 am: Review Center

11 am to 1pm: Lunch/Traveling time/Rest
1 pm to 5 pm: Solve problems on the topic and some from previous
5 pm to 6 pm: Dinner/Rest
6pm to 8 pm: Read terms in the recent and some previous topics
8 pm to 10pm: Memorize new formulas and recalling period
10 pm to 6am: Sleep

AIM: Solve atleast 100 problems correctly each day (except Sunday)
Read and be familiar with atleast 100 terms each day (except Sunday)
MEMORIZING FORMULAS

1. Memorize all the formulas involved in the topic on that day

2. Recall these formulas for 2 consecutive days

3. Recall these formulas once a week

4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for the formulas in the next topics until the Board exam
Ex:

Previous Topic (Monday): Integral Calculus

Current Topic (Tuesday): Differential Equations
Next Topic (Wednesday): Advanced Mathematics

Tuesday
- Memorize formulas in DE
- Recall formulas in Integral
Wednesday:
- Memorize formulas in Advanced Math
- Recall formulas in Integral and DE
Thursday:
- Memorize formulas in the topic of the day
- Recall formulas in DE and Advanced Math

And so on,
Then, you assigned that every Monday you have to recall all the
previous formulas
TECHNIQUES IN MEMORIZING FORMULAS

 When solving problems, keep on writing the formulas

 Assign interesting/funny mnemonics to formulas

 Write formulas in manila paper/cartolina and post it on your

walls

Ex:
Change in Entropy
FAMILIARIZING TERMS

1. Prepare the reading materials related to the topic of the day

2. Read and understand each definition 3 times

3. After the 20th term, repeat terms 1 to 20

4. Repeat the pattern in steps 2 and 3 for the next set of 20 terms

5. After last term (usually 100 plus), repeat the set of terms
(from 1st to the last term) twice

6. Recall these 100 plus terms for 2 consecutive days

7. Recall these terms together with the other terms once a week
TECHNIQUES IN READING TERMS

 Find key words in the definition to relate the term

 During the recalling period, block the answers using a card

 Sit in your most comfortable posture and relax while reading

 There are ppts/games created for recalling the terms

SOLVING PROBLEMS

1. Solve the easy problems first

2. Try to solve the problem without looking the solution
3. If for several trials you did not get the answer, you can scan
the solution
4. Resolve the problem until you get the correct answer
5. Mark the problems that are difficult and are classified as
unsolvable
TECHNIQUES IN SOLVING PROBLEMS

 Start first by writing the given, required then the solution

 As you continue the solving process, you’ll soon enhance your skills
and solving speed

 Use calculator techniques

 Mark the problems that you cannot solve and proceed to the next
problem

 Learn to move on and accept that there are problems that you
cannot solve due to some reasons (difficulty, problem errors, no
tables, etc)
Example: Differential Equation

Radium decomposes at a rate proportional to the amount at any instant. In 100

years, 100 mg of radium decompose to 96 mg. How many mg will be left after
another 100 years?

Given: Required:

Year Mass Mass at the 200th year

0 100 mg
100 96 mg
Let Q: Amount of radium at any time t
ROUTINE (SUNDAY)

 Time to reward yourself

 Have fun and take enough rest

 Spend time with people (family, friends, partner and others)

 Allot time for spiritual aspects

TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE EXAM

 Just continue the daily routine

 Time to prepare for the PRC requirements

 Certificates
 PRC forms
 Clearances
 Transcript of Records (TOR)
 Payments
ONE MONTH BEFORE THE EXAM

 Time to looksfam the marked problems/terms

 Allot more time in recalling everything

 Still solve problems everyday

 Focus on the materials given by the review center

 Play the games created for the ME board terms and

problems
ONE WEEK BEFORE THE EXAM

 Take good care of your physical health

 Sleep earlier

 Keep on recalling terms/formulas/looksfam problems

 Solve few problems to maintain your solving speed

 Compile the requirements to be presented at the day of

the exam

 Have time for relaxation

THE DAY BEFORE THE EXAM

 Time to give yourself enough rest/relaxation

 Sleep very early

 Don’t forget to prepare your things

 Keep in mind that you are already prepared

 Don’t stress yourself

 Think positive things (aim to top the board)

DURING THE EXAM

 Answer the easy questions first

 If you can’t solve a difficult problem for two attempts, learn to

move on immediately

 Always mark the problems you have skipped

 Rechecking of items should be done after you answered all the

items

 Bring snacks and drinks

 Don’t cheat

 Be careful in handling the answer sheet

 Trust your first instinct in guessing the answer
