Hakea Prison, situated in the south-east metropolitan area of Perth, is the primary remand, receival
and assessment prison for male metropolitan prisoners. As such, it is the first point of contact for the
majority of prisoners entering the prison system. It is unique as a facility having the dominant
proportion of its population as unsentenced prisoners. The Prison handles only male offenders, has a
significant budget and in the vicinity of over 400 members of staff.
Role
The position develops, coordinates and implements contemporary practices and procedures for
Occupational Safety & Health in accordance with legislation, conditions and standards required by
the Department and WorkSafe WA. The role will be responsible for ensuring on-site OSH compliance

by staff, prisoners and contractors and will identify and carry out risk management assessments
within the prison as required.

Provide a current resume including the contact details of 2 recent work referees and a 2 page
statement addressing the following work related requirements:
1. Knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act and associated legislation.
Interpreting and applying the OHS Act, regulations and supporting Australian Standards, Codes
of Practice and Guidelines. Providing timely and accurate advice to management and
employees on OHS related matters. Undertaking OHS systems audits and inspections of
workplaces for the identification of real and potential hazards.
2. Experience in the management, development and delivery of OHS or risk management
programs. Managing, developing, implementing and evaluating OHS programs and strategies in
a high risk environment. Undertaking risk management and developing appropriate strategies
to mitigate identified risk. Developing and delivering OHS education and training for a broad
audience and within a high risk working environment.
Any remaining work related requirements as listed in the JDF may be assessed at some stage during
the selection process.
Please ensure that at least 1 referee is a current or recent supervisor/line manager.
