CORE COMPETENCY 8

MARIQUENA DAVENPORT
CORE COMPETENCY: 8

 Intervene with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities

PRACTICE BEHAVIOR 8.1

 8.1 Critically choose and implement interventions to achieve practice goals and enhance capacities of clients and
constituencies.
 Activity/Task: Make recommendations based on research to help clients reach goals and wishes and work with
community throughout process to evaluate and support client. Attend family meetings as a support system of the
families.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR 8.2

 8.2 Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment, person-in-environment, and other
multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks in interventions with clients and constituencies.
 Activity/Task: Revisit case plan drawn up by DSS to confirm that case plan is fair and attainable for each family at
every given stage.
 For one case I had the father claimed he did not have a case plan or a copy of it. He also expressed his desires to have one
separate from the mother. I discussed his concerns with the social worker and after court a copy was given to the father. I
then later on in the week verified with the father that his plan is attainable and meets his desires. Case plans with my child
client are not issues, but based on their wishes I adjust my recommendations that can impact the DSS case plan agreements.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR 8.3

 8.3 Use inter-professional collaboration as appropriate to achieve beneficial practice outcomes.

 Activity/Task: Have ongoing communication with case workers as well as attend family meetings with case
workers.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR 8.4
 8.4 Negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of diverse clients and constituencies.
 Activity/Task: Advocate for the families and children to the involved committee. Court report should demonstrate advocacy as well as weekly
supervision.
 Attached images display my advocacy for permanency for this child.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR 8.5

 8.5 Facilitate effective transitions and endings that advance mutually agreed-on goals.
 Activity/Task: Effectively end transitions with clients at the end of the internships or when case has been closed.
 I have two cases that may be closing and I had to bring awareness to the child that I may no longer be their volunteer.
During a visit I talked to them about being an intern and soon to be having a baby as well as the status of their case. The
children understood and expressed their feelings of missing me. I did let them know who will take over the case if the court
find that more time is needed. I provided them with my supervisors information and they also double check to see if they
had my number saved.
