Firework Science

Problem/Question
• Does oil and water mix together?
Hypothesis
• I think the oil and water will stay separated, and will not mix together.
Materials
• Large, tall clear glass jar
• Blue, red, and yellow liquid food coloring
• 40 ounces of water
• 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
• Spoon for mixing
• Clear Pyrex measuring cup
Procedure
• Fill large glass jar with 40 ounces of water.
• Pour 2 tablespoons of cooking oil into a clear Pyrex measuring cup.
• Put 5 drops each of red, blue, and yellow food coloring into the oil.
• Stir each color into the oil with a spoon.
• Pour the oil into the water jar all at once.
• Watch the fireworks explode.
Results/Data
Conclusion
• I learned from this experiment that oil and water do not mix together.
• In the future I would like to know what substances mixes with oil.
