One use of conjunction is to connect words or
phrases, this is called parallel structure.
The conjunctions used in this pattern are :

1. AND
* Conjunction “and” can used between two
nouns/subjects.
Ex : Andi and Naryo are ...........................
* used to connect between two verbs/sentences/clauses.
Ex : Panji watching TV and cooking noodles.

* To connect between two verbs (the second auxiliary


may be omitted if it is the same as the first auxiliary).
Ex : Ego is using his foot and playing football.
2. BUT
* Conjunction “but” can used between two adjectives.
Ex : These shoes are old but comfortable.

* Conjunction “but” can used between two verbs.


Ex : Lucy waited for two hours but then decided to
leave.
3. OR
* Conjunction “or” can used between two infinitifes (the
second
to may be omitted).
Ex : He wants to listen radio or read to newspaper.

* Conjunction “or” can used between two phrases.


Ex : Lucy wants the apple or the orange.
4. CORRELATIVE CONJUNCTIONS
* both ...... and ......
Ex : Both My sisters and My mother cooking in the
kitchen.
* neither ........ nor .....
Ex : The coach wanted neither to lose nor to tie in this
match.
* either ........ or .....
Ex : You can either sit there or wait here.

* not only ........ But also .....


Ex : Naryo went to the market not only to buy some
vegetables
but also to buy some fruits too.

Subjunctive is used in a noun clause that follows certain verbs
and exspressions. The sentences generally stress importance.
Subjunctive verbs are used only in their simple form. They do
not have present, past, or future form : they are neither
singular nor plural.
(a) The teacher demands that we be on time. • In (a): be is a subjunctive verb.
(b) I insisted that he pay me the money. • Negative: not + simple form,as in (c).
• Passive: simple form of be + past
(c) I recommended that she not go to the concert. participle, as in (d)
(d) It is important that they be told the truth.
(e) I suggested that she see a doctor. Should is also possible after suggest and
(f) I suggested that she should see a doctor. recommend
