Comparing the Quality of Two Nouns
EQUAL COMPARISONS
• When two nouns have an equal • Note these rules:
1. ser or estar MUST always be conjugated
quality, we can compare them to Noun 1.

My parents are as happy as I.

Tú eres tan impaciente como tu primo.


You are as impatient as your cousin.

We (girls) are as nervous as them.
UNEQUAL COMPARISONS
• When two nouns have an unequal • Note these rules:
1. ser or estar MUST always be conjugated
quality, we can compare them to Noun 1.

We are more surprised than them.

La profesora es menos generosa que el estudiante.


The teacher is less generous than the student.

Ellas están menos confundidas que los chicos.


They (girls) are less confused than the boys.
LET’S PRACTICE

SUPERLATIVES
Stating that a noun is of a very very
very very very quality.
SUPERLATIVES
• Superlatives are used when you want to state that a noun is in
particular excess of a quality.
• It has no direct translation in English, rather can be
expressed with “very, very, very.”
• How to form:
• Take an adjective and add ísimo.
• contento – contentísimo
• popular - popularísimo
• triste – tristísimo
• sorprendido – sorprendidísimo
SUPERLATIVES, CONT.
• Remember, since you must still adhere to your ANAA rules,
ísimo must change to ísima, ísimos, or ísimas.
• Carlos está muy contento. Carlos está contentísimo.
• Luisa está muy contenta. Luisa está contentísima.
• Ellos están muy contentos. Ellos están contentísimos.
• Estamos muy contentas. Estamos contentísimas.
• Fun fact: You can keep adding –si– to keep extending the
quality. For example: contentisísimo is exceedingly super
happy. And contentisisísimo is even happier than that!
