DEFINITION

Diarrhea is a condition in which a person has a


bowel movement with a consistency of more
than 4 times in 24 hour. (WHO)

ACUTE DIARRHEA

 Diarrhea that lasts for 7-14 days.


 This diarrhea is characterized by increasing frequency
of defecation and a watery but not bloody stool.
 The cause is : virus (Norovirus, Norwalk Agent),
bachteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella,
Vibrio cholerae, and Campylobacter), and
Parasite(Candida).
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Reduced skin
Bluish fingers
elasticity
Weak pulse Yellow lips

Sunken eyes Vomiting

Raspy voice Muscle weakness

Cold skin Seizures


DIARRHEA DYSENTERY

 Diarrhea accompanied with blood


 Mikrobes cause dysentery are salmonella,
campylobacter, vibrio parahaemolyticus, shigella,
enteroinvasive E. Coli, and entamoeba histolytica.
 Dysentery lasts for 7 days or even longer, potentially
leading to severe dehydration until death.

CHRONIC DIARRHEA

 Chronic diarrhea is diarrhea lasting more than 14


days
 Chronic diarrhea can be experienced by a person for
long periods of times , for days or even weeks.
 Diarrhea is very difficult to cure and the sufferer
must get the maximum care.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
A. Watery stool with frequency 4 or more times a day,
sometimes accompanied by:
