Steps to follow only for Ethernet Link.

● Steps to follow only for Ethernet Link.

● If an active Ethernet link is down, steps to follow at BTS end.
• 1.Check the LED indications in the PoE
• a. LED Act and
• b.LED Standby.

● LED Act (Red indication)-If RED LED glows, means PoE and ODU are communicating
and no problem in the connectivity between PoE and ODU.

● LED Standby (Green Indication) – If GREEN LED glows, means that PoE and ODU are not
communicating.

● 1.Check the cat5 cable running from IDU to ODU.

● 2.Check the RJ45 Jack and ensure that it is properly connected to the ODU port in
the IDU.
● 3.And also ensure the other end is properly connected to the ODU.
● 4.Bring down the ODU and check the same by connecting Test Cables.
5.If the Same problem persists then change the ODU and Check.
● If RED LED glows on the PoE at both the sites, but there is no air link.
Then go to page no 9 and follow the steps.

Steps to follow only for Direct E1 link

Steps to be followed for Direct E1 link(when no E1 to Ethernet converter

used at BTS)
If an E1 link is down, first Check the status of the Led in IDU

 If ODU LED glows RED then check the connectivity between IDU and
ODU.
Check the RJ45 Jack and ensure that it is fixed properly to the ODU port in
the IDU.And the other end should be connected properly to the IDU port in the
ODU.
If still the problem persists, bring down the ODU and Check the same by
using Test Cables.

If the IDU LED shows AMBER blinking, reboot the IDU.

•Check the input Power.

•The input power should be -48v DC

Still the problem persists, change the IDU and check.

Ensure that IDU should be properly grounded to the nearby Earth. (refer page no 13).

If AIR IF glows AMBER, means both the modems are synchronized but installation manager
wizard is not completed.

Log in to the Winlink Manager and complete the Link installation Wizard.

If SERVICE LED glows RED but AIR IF glows Green, means RF Link is good but there is no
E1 Stream connected to the Trunk port.

• Ensure that E1 stream is connected to the correct trunk port of the IDU.

• Ensure that RJ 45 jack is correctly crimped and connected properly to the Trunk
port.
• Pin no 1 and 2 of the other end of the RJ 45 jack should be connected to the
Receiving port of the MUX.
• Pin no 4 and 5 of the RJ 45 jack should be connected to the transmitting port of the
MUX.
• NO indication in the SERVICE LED – Go to the Winlink 1000 configuration page
and enable Ethernet+E1 and apply the Same.

COMMON TROUBLESHOOTING FOR BOTH E1 & ETHERNET LINK

● If AIR IF glows red, means that internal connectivity are good but there is no
communication between Local Modem and Remote modem. Then follow the
below steps.
1.Ensure that Remote modem is in ON condition
2.Check the local modem configuration by logging in to winlink-1000 Manager.
3.Check the SSID, as both local and remote modem SSID should be the Same.

4.Check the output power configured on both the modems.
Typically it should be 12 to 18 Dbm
5.Check the channel Bandwidth and ensure that both should be
the Same.
6.Check the operational frequency of both the modem. And
ensure that both should be the same.
7.Check the s/w version and hardware version of both the
modems and ensure that both should be same

8.Check the Antenna and ensure that the feeder is properly
connected to the Antenna port of the ODU.
9.Check the Antenna direction and ensure that it is not
misaligned.
10.Check the Line Of Sight.
If still the Problem persists change the ODU and Check.
Ensure that the ODU is Properly Grounded (refer page no 13).

ALARMS

LOS(loss of synchronization) – Check the transmitting and receiving

pair correctly connected in the MUX.
AIS(alarm indication signal) – connectivity is right, but no E1 stream
available.check the E1 stream availability.
Loop back – loop back enabled in the ODU.
Authentication Error – Link passwords mismatch. Go to
winlink1000 manager and confirm the passwords applied in both the
modems.
Link configuration mismatch – check the s/w version of the IDU
and version of the Manager. Manager should be in higher version than
the software version of the ODU.

EARTHING
Earthing is very must for a RF link.
1.Check the ODU’s protective Earth terminal (screw) must be connected to the external protective ground
conductor or to a grounded mast.
2.Check the IDU’s protective Earth point must be connected to the external protective ground or to the
nearby grounded rack.
3.Lugs should be used always to connect the earthing cable in to the equipment, instead of screwing the
bare conductor.

4.STP cable and shielded RJ45 jack should be used always for installation.Shieled RJ 45 jack must be
soldered well to the external shield of the cat 5e STP Cable.
