Electrolyte
○ Compound that conducts an
electric current when it is in an aqueous
solution or melted.
○ All ionic compounds are electrolytes.
○ When ionic compounds dissolve, they break
apart into ions which are then able to
conduct a current (conductivity).

Example of
electrolyte
o Sodium chloride
o Nitric acid
o Chloric acid
o Hydrocholoric acid
o Sodium hydroxide

Electrolytes are also found in the bodily fluids and

In fluid flow between cells.
o Calcium
o Potassium
o Chlorine
o Magnesium
o Sodium
o Phosphate
Nonelectrolytes
○ A substance that does not readily ionize
when dissolved or melted and is a poor
conductor of electricity.

Example of
Nonelectrolyte
o Pure water
o Sugar
o Lipids
o Carbohydrates
o CarbonTetra Chloride
Difference
Nonelectrolytes are chemical compounds
Electrolytes are chemical compounds that
whose aqueous solutions cannot conduct
can break down into ions when dissolved

SlidesCarnival icons are editable shapes.

This means that you can:

● Resize them without losing quality.
● Change line color, width and style.

Isn’t that nice? :)
