First we are going to work with verbs, and then we’ll continue with the
core activity.
In English there are four basic verbs that you must have a good
command of them, as the present tense as well as the simple past.
They are the following:
Infinitive( name of the verb ) Simple Present Simple Past
To Be(ser o estar) am, are, is was, were
To Have(tener o haber) have, has had
To Get(lograr,conseguir,etc) get, gets got
To Do(hacer) do, does did
Let’s ask questions and give short + or – answers.
Observe that, we don’t use any auxiliary verb with to be, but with other
verbs yes. neither with modals like can, may, must, will, would, should.
ought, have as haber,e.g., have you been in Margarita so far this year?,(Has
estado en Margarita en lo que va de este año). Another very impostant tip is
that the tense of the sentence is established by the verb to do( the auxiliary).
For example, Do you have……; Did you have…….; Do you do …….; Did
you do….., you see, the auxiliary do changes from present to past because
you are asking in present or past, but the verb of the sentence tener o ha-
cer never changes. Another example, Now let’s ask this way:
What does she do every morning?
What did she do yesterday morning?
What is she doing at the moment?
What will she do tomorrow?
Make Simple Present quetions and answer from the words in brackets.
