• Occupational Safety and


health (OSH) is the basic
human right for safety

INTRODUCTION

Occupational Health and safety legislation is


designed so that employers provide a safe work
environment, and employees minimize the risk of
accidents and injuries.
HISTORY

• Progress of OSH Legislation in the Philippines


Development of OSH in the Philippines started in
1903 and consolidated in 1908 when Bureau of
Labor was created and it was named Department of
Labor on Dec. 8, 1933
HISTORY

• Give their first act on 1908 requiring employers to


compensate workers who were injured while
performing their job and
• 1927 Workmen’s Compensation Act No. 3428
was passed providing payment of damages by
employer for illnesses, in addition to injury or
death due to employment
• 1936 Commonwealth Act No. 104 was passed
and Known as the First Industrial Safety Law

• Accidents happens mostly due by two


major causes:
• Unsafe condition at the workplace
• Unsafe act done by a person or a group
