Problem statement

 Malaysia is a country with very peculiar weather conditions such as high

atmospheric temperatures, high humidity which causes huge amounts of rain.
 Unfortunately there are not so many technologies that are capable of making
good use of those meteorological conditions, and finding new sources of
producing electricity is still a concern amongst Malaysians.
 Therefore, coming up with a technology that can generate electricity from
sources such as rainwater and Sun is very useful and environmentally friendly
alternative. The proposed technology will be able to collect rainwater that
will be channeled to a piezoelectric board and electricity will be generated.
It will also be able to use sunlight to generate electricity by means of a solar
panel system.
Objectives

 Maximize the use of rainwater, that would otherwise be discarded, into

producing electricity.
 Maximize the use of sunlight which is abundant in Malaysia.
 Prove that the proposed technology can be used in buildings, and that cleaner
energy sources are the ones that should be used in the future

METHODOLOGY OF FABRICATION
1. 6 pieces of PVC plates are assembled together by
using hot glue gun to build as a cube with the top
plate serves as a holder of piezoelectric transducer.
Also, a hole is made at the side of the cube to
dispense accumulated rain drops.
2. Stick 5 more separate plates to form another cube
but the base is moved inside 4 connected PVC plate
and then is connected with Box 1. Also, a hole is
made for the plate that has been moved inside.
3. A solar panel is attached at the side of the box.
4. All the wires are connected between solar panel
and piezoelectric transducer so that it can be
connected to a rectifier, rechargeable battery slot
and a light bulb to show the results.
ARRANGEMENT OF PIEZOELECTRIC
CIRCUIT (8 OR 28 PIEZO)
WORKING MECHANISM OF RAIN HARVESTER
1. Rain drops are accumulated at the roof of the harvester and then flow through the holes.
2. As the rain drops flow through the hole, it will make contact with piezoelectric transducer.
Hence, inducing a pressure on transducer.
3. The piezoelectric transducer works in principle of piezoelectric whereas the appearance of an
electrical potential (a voltage, in other words) across the sides of a crystal when you subject it
to mechanical stress (by squeezing it/applying pressure).
4. Normally, the charges in a piezoelectric crystal are exactly balanced, even if they're not
symmetrically arranged.
5. The effects of the charges exactly cancel out, leaving no net charge on the crystal faces. (More
specifically, the electric dipole moments—vector lines separating opposite charges—exactly
cancel one another out.)
6. If you squeeze the crystal (massively exaggerated in this picture!), you force the charges out of
balance.
7. Now the effects of the charges (their dipole moments) no longer cancel one another out and net
positive and negative charges appear on opposite crystal faces. By squeezing the crystal, you've
produced a voltage across its opposite faces—and that's piezoelectricity!
8. The amount of voltage produced are monitored and the voltage are used to power up an
electrical appliance such as a light bulb.
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM OF SOLAR CIRCUIT CONNECTIONS
WORKING MECHANISM OF SOLAR
POWERED HARVESTER IN THE SYSTEM
1. First, sunlight hits a solar panel.
2. The panels convert energy to DC current, which flows to a solar
charge converter.
3. The charge controller connects the battery to the solar panel where
the battery stores electricity that the solar panel produces.
4. From the battery, current flows to the power inverter. It is optional to
add a voltmeter before the power inverter to observe the charge of
the battery.
5. The inverter converts electricity from DC to AC, which you can then
use to power your appliances.
