views about society and the world
• Analyze social, political, and cultural change
WHAT IS IDENTITY?
Is the distinctive characteristics that
defines an individual or is shared by
those belonging to a particular group.
Example

• In a family one’s identity can be that of a


daughter, son, brother, or sister.
• He or she may also be known as a football player,
performance artist, et.
• Identity can also be influenced by other factors
such as sexual orientation and gender,
nationality.
Identities are not fixed. It is continuously
shaped and reshaped by the passage of time,
the person’s life experiences and his or her
interaction with other people in society.
Example

•Young people, identify themselves as


sons or daughter but would
eventually become fathers and
mothers when they start their own
families.
Identities are important because the
shape individual and group behavior as
well as the person’s views about other
people and society.

through constant dialogue and
interaction with each other.

POLITICAL CHANGE are related to
the formation of individual and
group identities.

• When Filipinos first held elections in the


1990s, only Filipino males could vote and
participate in politics.
• The phenomenon of international migration
has also change Filipino identities and
beliefs.

educated, they were enlightened
about their rights, particularly the
right to vote. Consequently the
framers of the 1935 Constitution
allowed women to vote by virtue of a
law
The outcome forever changed the
way women are regarded in society as
well as how political and social
changes have transformed Filipino
women’s identities.
