SUMMARY
The story begins when Nathaniel crosses the border. Nathaniel in that
moment was overwhelmed with emotions. After he finally arrived In San
Benito, Texas everything was going fine, he had shelter, and a small job.
This all changed when Nathaniel began school. It was his first time he
would be attending school since the age of 6. Nathaniel arrived to the
school with his uncle to just tour around when he already could feel the
tension between him and the other students. 76% of the students that
attended the school were caucasian and believed that their race was more
preferable than the rest. As nathaniel first day of school rolls around the
corner he becomes agitated. Oh his first day he is constantly bullied and
made fun but he does let thing bring him down. He begins to work hard
and get help by one of his classmates mirza. At the end he realizes that
there is no need to give up and that there is always a reason to fight for.
PROCESS OF WRITING
The original concept I had for my story was for my character to be all alone and have
no one by his side. I soon realized that this was something that i didn't want in my
narrative because I believe everyone deserves to have someone or something they
could latch onto that will push them to stay motivated. So I decided to incorporate
religion and truly emphasis it throughout my story. In my opinion I feel as if my
character didn't believe in god he probably wouldn't have been the same character I
imagined in my head. I wanted to make my story as relatable as possible even
though I have never experienced what my character is going through exactly but I
have seen others and people i care for struggle with this. At the end of the day I
wrote my narrative this way because I wanted to bring awareness about racial
inequality and overall bullying. I feel like this topic is very underrated and I feel that it
needs to be brought to people's attention so we can help the people who are
suffering with this and stop this from happening. I put my best effort in my novel it
may not be the best but it was something I was truly passionate about. If I could redo
my novel I probably would try to change the development of my novel.
EXCERPT
¨ Coming to America is something that is always easily said by others
but what people don't know is that the experiences that we immigrants
have to go through can shatter a person perspective and shatter any
ounce of dignity left in ones body.¨ (Page.8 Paragraph 46)
This selection is important because it basically summarizes the
narrative in a sentence. It talks about how people suffer coming here,
and the people who have been lucky enough to never experience
never will be able to understand the trauma that comes with it and
what it symbolizes to someone.
THEME
My main thematic focus was racism, racism is a big problem and i
wanted to write about it and incorporate in my story because i feel like
at one point in our lives we've all witnessed it.
Something i believe that you as a reader should take away from
my story is that not only is racial inequality a big problem all around
the world, it is also a big problem in schools. Some kids are bullied or
are treated unfairly for just trying to live a better life. We as students
and we as the youth of this nation need to fight and let our voices be
heard because we have the chance to speak up about topics unlike
others.
My theme is very similar to the one of the pearl because just like
in the pearl there is a gap between the two races and the two social
classes it's the same way here in america.
CONCLUSION
I am more than thrilled to have the opportunity have you guys
read my novel i feel like its something we've seen before but never
really talked about. I am looking forward to kids enjoying the novel and
being able to truly feel as if they were Nathaniel
