What is teaching?

– Impart knowledge to someone or instruct someone to do something


– The act, profession or practice of a teacher
– Setting out the intention to learn for the learners by considering their feelings,
experiences and needs (Hirst, 1975)
Roles of assessment in teaching

– Generate appropriate student learning activity – lesson planning


– Capturing students attention – focus on certain topics
– Provide opportunities to remedy mistakes in the lesson – immediate feedbacks /
comments
– Performance indicator for teachers and students

Roles of assessment in teaching

– Informative function: determine whether the pupils reach the learning


objectives and suitability of teaching strategies
– Regulative function: Teachers regulates the pupils further learning activity /
procedure to correct errors, misconceptions or to avoid possible errors in the
future.
– Motivational function: motivates student to learn, to be discipline and help
teachers to increase sense of responsibility of the students

Conclusion

– The roles of assessment in teaching is:


1. To help teachers improve their instructional appoarch, teaching.. Etc.
2. To help teachers to motivate or classroom management, but this might cause
unhealthy scenario to the learners
3. To help teachers identify pupils prior knowledge, learning progress etc. thus
plan suitable learning activities
4. To develop teachers professional skills

To maximize pupils learning during the lesson
