Introduction
The basic building aim of this Project “BLOOD BANK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM” is to
provide blood donation service to the city recently.
Blood Bank Management System (BBMS) is a Web based application that is designed to
store, process, retrieve and analyse information concerned with the administrative and
inventory management within a blood bank.
This project aims at maintaining all the information pertaining to Blood Donors, different
groups available in each Blood Bank and help them manage in the best way.
This project is to provide transparency in this field, make the process of obtaining blood
from a blood bank hassle free and corruption free and make the system of blood bank
management effective. This system has many facilities like online transfer of blood from
one bank to another, manage list of Donors who are eligible for donation on a particular
date with contact no., etc.
This System is developed on PHP platform and supported by a MySQL database Server to
store user specific details.

Major Players
"Safetrans", configured employing blood transfusion and logic rules to support good transfusion
practice, tracks, records and act on each step of the blood transfusion process, right from donor
selection to the blood component being transfused to the patient, tracking the entire cycle.
SafeTrans enables blood banks to eliminate cognitive process based bias errors from every stage of
the blood transfusion process. It ensures that, under a defined set of circumstances, the system
will consistently take the actions specified as per the blood transfusion rules configured.

"Donor Self Check In”: An innovative module for Donor registration, identification and pre-donation
screening. Integrated with smart phone, tabs and touch screen kiosk, this module helps Donors to
screen themselves in an interactive manner leading to high quality donors. Donor self-check in
module has helped hospitals, blood banks increase the quality of blood donors. It is backed by
multilingual capabilities as well.
Problems in Existing Work
On Blood Collection Side :
• Many parts in the country still have problem of too few voluntary donors.
• The other problem is that blood donation camps do not happen all year round and the blood banks
face periodic shortage.

On Blood Bank Management Side :

• Lack of uniform, consistent and up-to-date regulation and policies from the Government with the
Department of Drugs and Cosmetics Standard and Control on one end and National AIDS Control
organisation on the other.
• Struggle to compete with blood banks running with commercial motives which tend to influence the
organisers of camps - especially in colleges in public blood donation drives by money and incentives.
• Inability to transfer blood units between blood banks which sometimes leads to units expiring on shelf.
• The difficulty in maintaining quality with low costs - especially in the context of recruiting and
retaining professionals who get poached easily.
Objective
This main objective of this system is to support the automated tracking of
blood products from the initial ordering of a blood transfusion for a patient,
through to the taking of blood sample for cross matching, to administration of
a blood transfusion and subsequent updates to care records. The Scope of the
specification includes the following scenarios:
• Routine Blood Transfusion.
• Transfusion for special requirements [for example, cytomegalovirus (CMV),
seronegative blood, irradiated blood or antigen negative blood].
• Emergency issue of Blood.
• Management of returned and unused Blood units.
Expected Outcomes
• The “Blood Bank Management” has been developed to override the problems prevailing
in the practicing Manual System. The software is supported to eliminate and in some
cases reduce the hardships faced by this existing system. Moreover this system is
designed for the particular need of the company to carry out operations in a smooth
and effective manner.
• The application is reduced as much as possible to avoid errors while entering the data.
It also provides error message while entering invalid data. No formal knowledge is
needed for the user to use this system. Thus, by this all it provides it is user-
friendly. Blood Bank Management System, as described above, can lead to error-free,
secure, reliable and fast management system. It can assist the user to concentrate on
their other activities rather to concentrate on the record keeping. Thus it will help
the organisation in better utilization of resources.
• Every organization, whether big or small, has challenges to overcome and managing
the information of Blood, Blood Bank, Blood Cells, Donor, and Blood Stock.
Ultimately, this Blood Bank Management System will allow you to better manage
resources.
