BIGDATA AND ITS SECURITY

Batch No. : 1

Supervisor

ASST PROF – IT.

WHAT IS BIGDATA?
It is crucial to better understand all dimensions related to big
data. In this respect four characteristics define big data:

Volume

Variety

Velocity

Variability

2
WHAT IS BIGDATA?
 Volume : Data sizes will range from terabytes to
exabytes (that is, 1021 bytes).

 Variety : Data come in many different formats from

structured data, organized according to some structures
like the data record, to unstructured data, like image,
sounds, and videos which are much more difficult to
search and analyze.

 Velocity – in many novel applications, like smart cities

and smart planet, data continuously arrive, possibly at
very high frequencies, resulting in continuous high-speed
data streams. It is critical that the time required to act on
these data be very small.
WHAT IS BIGDATA?
 Variability – data
inconsistency can prevent
the progress of processes, and difficult to
manage and handle it

 Veracity – thedata captured will come in

different qualities which affects the analysis
accuracy
SECURITY ISSUES OF BIGDATA
 A company gathers Business Intelligence.

 To provide a clearer picture of customer preferences in

order to better target them.

 But centralizing data in one place, it becomes a valuable

target for attackers.

 Which can potentially leave huge number of information

exposed, which could undermine TRUST in the
organization and damage its reputation

 This makes it essential that big data stores are properly

controlled and protected.
DATA SECURITY
 Any comprehensive data security solution must meet three
requirements:
1) secrecy
2) integrity
3) availability

 Secrecy:
Secrecy or confidentiality refers to the protection
of data against unauthorized disclosure

 Integrity:
Integrity refers to the prevention of unauthorized
and improper data modification.
DATA SECURITY
 Availability:
Availability refers to the prevention and recovery
from hardware and software errors and from malicious data
access denials making the database system unavailable.

 These three requirements arise in practically all application

environments.
DATA SECURITY TECHNIQUES
Some practices can be followed to secure the data of Big Data.
They are,
 Safeguarding the distributed programming frameworks such as
Hadoop

 Securing the non-relational data such as NoSQL

 Securing data storage and transaction logs

 Implementing endpoint filtering and validation

 Implementing cryptography on big data

 Granular access control

DATA SECURITY TECHNIQUES
 Modern way which is currently being practiced to implement
security is using iRODS software.

 The integrated Rule-Oriented Data (iRODS) is an Open-

Source software which is proposed to be the solution to
ensure security and privacy in big data.
Conclusion

In this ppt we have focused on big data, and its security
techniques.

We believe that all these perspectives of security

techniques are also needed to achieve effective solutions to
the problem security in the era of big data and especially to
the problem of reconciling security and privacy
