What is Microsoft Basic
Set of computing software intended for word processing,
calculations and presentations.
Includes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Trivia: MS-PPT was made by Robert Gaskins and Dennis Austin but
acquired by Microsoft 3 months after.
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is a widely used commercial word processor designed by
Microsoft. Microsoft Word is a component of the Microsoft Office suite of
productivity software, but can also be purchased as a stand-alone product.
It was initially launched in 1983 and has since been revised numerous times.
Microsoft Word is available for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
Microsoft Word is often called simply Word or MS Word.

Tricks in MS Word
1) Double-click to write anywhere
Messing around with tables and columns to get the perfect layout can be time-
consuming, but Word is able to handle basic page layouts without any help from
you. Just double-click in any position on the page where you want text, and start
typing.
Tricks in MS Word
2) Select arbitrary areas of text
Need a text selection that goes vertically rather than horizontally? Want to start
a selection in the middle of a word? Just hold down Alt before you click and
drag, and you’ll be able to select any rectangle of text you like, ready for
formatting or deleting.
Tricks in MS Word
3) Delete entire words at a time
This is quite an elementary one that you might not be aware of. You don’t have
to peck away at the keyboard to delete text. Hold down Ctrl while pressing
Backspace and you can erase entire words at a time, making it much easier to
clear out your unwanted prose.
Tricks in MS Word
4) Use Word’s built-in calculator
Open the Quick Access Toolbar menu (top left) then pick More Commands and
All Commands and add the Calculate option. Choose this from the Quick Access
list whenever a sum (e.g. “=2+2") is highlighted and the result appears on the
status bar.
Shortcuts
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel is a software program produced by Microsoft that
allows users to organize, format and calculate data with formulas
using a spreadsheet system. This software is part of the Microsoft
Office suite and is compatible with other applications in the Office
suite.

Tricks in MS Excel
1) Speedily Move and Copy Data in Cells
If you want to move one column of data in a spreadsheet, the fast way is to
choose it and move the pointer to the border, after it turns to a crossed arrow
icon, drag to move the column freely. What if you want to copy the data? You
can press the Ctrl button before you drag to move; the new column will copy all
the selected data.
Tricks in MS Excel
2) Vague Search with Wild Card
You may know how to activate the speedy search by using the shortcut Ctrl + F,
but there are two main wild cards—Question Mark and Asterisk—used in Excel
spreadsheets to activate a vague search. This is used when you are not sure
about the target result. Question Mark stands for one character and Asterisk
represents one or more characters. What if you need to search Question Mark
and Asterisk as a target result? Don’t forget add a Wave Line in front.
Tricks in MS Excel
3) Transpose Data from a Row to a Column
You would use this feature if you want to transpose data to get a better display;
however, retyping all data would be the last thing you would need to do if you
know how to use the Transpose function in Paste. Here’s how: copy the area you
want to transpose, move the pointer to another blank location. Go to Home-
>Paste->Transpose, please note that this function won’t activate until you copy
the data first.
Trivia
Microsoft settled on the name “Excel” for the final product, but other proposed
names were put forth – including “Master Plan” and “Mr. Spreadsheet”
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is a powerful presentation software developed by
Microsoft. It is a standard component of the company's Microsoft Office suite
software, and is bundled together with Word, Excel and other office productivity
tools. The program uses slides to convey information rich in multimedia. The
term slide refers to the old slide projector, which this software effectively
replaces.
Tricks in MS PowerPoint
1) Go B or W to Get the Focus on You
When you're presenting, the slides are meant to help you, the speaker—not
become a distraction. When the time comes to make sure the audience is paying
attention to you alone, hit the B key to send the screen to a complete black out,
or the W key to go to a white out. Then hit any key or click with the mouse to get
back to the slides. It's a good technique to get all eyes on you, even if the slide is
full of notes, animation, or video.

2) Set Up a Kiosk Presentation
Kiosk mode is when your presentation is set to just play, over and over again,
whether with human intervention or not. Either way, it just plays and doesn't
skip out to give the viewer access to the desktop. It's perfect for trade shows
and, naturally, kiosks like you'd find in a mall.

3) Zoom in and out of slides
Sometimes there is a part of a slide that needs more attention. A chart or a
graph is a good example. You may just want to make sure one point is effectively
shown.
