Automated Information System

A generic term applied to all electronic computing systems.


Automated Information System collect, store, process,
create, disseminate , communicate, or control data or
information. AIS are composed of computer hardware,
(automated data processing equipment and associated
devices that may include communication equipment),
firmware, an operating system (OS), and other applicable
software.

Automated Information System
An AIS manages the interaction between users and
information contained within a database and often uses
an internet-based interface to do this. As such, the AIS
allows users (usually tourism industry staff) to gain access
to supplier and destination information that is current
and accurate.

THE GOVERNMENT
SECTOR
TECHNICAL TERMS
 Airline – a commercial company that provides air transport services for traveling
passengers.
Cruise ship – a sea voyage of passengers for leisure

Foodservice – an establishment responsible for any meal o beverage prepared


outside the home.
Tour operator – travel consultant who promotes destinations, package tours, and
accommodation and sell to clients.
Travel agent – a person who facilitates arrangements for travel such as
documentation, passage, accommodations, tours, and activities.
Department of Tourism
This is the executive department of the
Philippine government that plans, programs,
coordinates, implements, and regulates the
domestic and international development and
promotion of the tourism industry.
Republic Act No. 9593 ( Tourism Act of
2009)
An act that states and declares a national
policy for tourism as an engine of investment,
employment, growth and national development,
and strengthening the Department of Tourism and
its attached agencies to effectively implement the
said policy.

THE UNDERSECRETARY
FOR TOURISM
DEVELOPMENT
Office of Product Development
1. Create and expand new products that improve new tourism
destinations.
2. Undertake tests on the viability and acceptability of new
tourism-related products and programs.
3. Encourage and promote joint undertakings with the private
sector for the development of new tourism-related products
and programs.
4. Perform such other functions as may be assigned to it by the
Secretary.
Office of Tourism Development Planning,
Research, and Information Management
1. Prepare a National Tourism Development Plan identifying geographic
areas with potential tourism value and outlining approaches to
developing such areas.
2. Formulate policies and programs for global competitiveness and national
tourism development, and approve local government tourism
development plans.
3. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of policies, plans, and
programs of the Department.
4. Formulate an integrated marketing and promotions plan, identifying
strategic market areas and niches.
Office of the Industry Manpower
Development
1. Develop training modules and conduct multiskills training seminars, including
continuing education programs for the industry manpower.
2. Develop training courses and apprenticeship programs, in coordination with the
Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation, for tourist guides and other similar
workers jointly with appropriate government agencies and the private sector.
3. Enlist the participation of experts for the training and education programs to
LGU’s.
4. Develop, in conjunction with the TESDA, programs for the training and
certification of tourism professionals.
5. Perform such other functions as may be assigned to it by the Secretary.
DOT- ATTACHED
AGENCIES AND
CORPORATIONS
Section 29 of the Tourism Act of 2009
- states that the following agencies and corporations
shall be attached to the Department and shall be under
the supervision of the Secretary for policy and program
coordination while continuing to operate under their
respective charters.
A. Philippine Tourism Promotions Board
- Shall be responsible for marketing and promoting the Philippines domestically and
internationally as a major global tourism destination, highlighting the uniqueness, and
assisting the development of its tourism products and services.

B. Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise


Zone Authority
- Ensures strict compliance by the TEZ operator with the approve development plan. Pursuant
thereto, the TIEZA shall have the power to impose penalties for failure or refusal of the tourism
enterprises to comply with approved development plan, which shall be considered a violation o
the terms of registration.
C. Duty Free Philippine Corporation
- Shall be a body corporate to operate the duty and tax-free merchandising system in the
Philippines to augment the service facilities for tourists and returning Filipino travelers to
generate foreign exchange and revenue for the government.

D. Intramuros Administration
- Is an attached agency pf the DOT whose main functions are to restore Intramuros and
promote it as a tourist destination. Intramuros is also called Walled City, is the oldest district
and historic core of Manila.
E. National Parks Development Committee
- Is an attached agency of the DOT that is tasked to develop, preserve and manage Rizal and
Paco Parks in Manila and other parks that may be assigned to the NPDC.

F. Nayong Pilipino Foundation


- Another DOT –attached agency that manages the Nayong Pilipino Park, the only cultural park
in the country that serves as the country’s miniature.
G. Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA)
- It is mandated to attract foreign nationals and former Filipino citizens to invest, reside and
retire in the Philippines with the end-view of accelerating the socio-economic development of
the country, contributing to the foreign currency reserve of the economy and by providing
them best quality of life in the most attractive package.

H. Philippine Commission on Sports


SCUBA Diving
- This intensifies measures to provide the standard basic dive rules to all levels or kinds of
divers; to regulate Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) sports and
technical diving in the country;and to coordinate closely with the office of Tourism Standards f
Regulations for accreditation processes.
OTHER NATIONAL
GOVERNMENT UNITS
1. Department of Transportation and
Communications (DOTC)
-regulates and supervises the transportation and communications
industries.

2. Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) and Air


Transportation Office
- Are responsible in establishing safety standards for air carriers. Airlines
need to connect with these two government offices for their license and
other airline related matters.
3. Maritime Industry Authority
(MARINA) and PPA
- responsible for maritime safety. All ships and vessels are under its
jurisdiction.

4. Land Transportation Franchising and


Regulatory Board (LTFRB)
- Is the agency that issues , suspends, and cancels certificates of public land
transportation services like buses and other motorized vehicles.
5. Department of Public Works and
Highways (DPWH)
- Is an agency that is responsible for the infrastructure of roads and
bridges.

6. Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)


- Takes care of friendly relations with other countries. Incidentally, this is the
agency travelers who wish to travel abroad apply for their passports.
7. Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR)
- Oversees the protection of natural environment.

6. Philippine National Police (PNP)


- Is the agency that helps promote peace and order. It helps protect the
natives and tourists as well.
