The day after John the Baptist

baptised Jesus, he was standing

there with two of his disciples.
Gazing at Jesus as He walked
by, he said,
‘Look, the Lamb of God!’

When John’s two disciples

heard him say this, they
followed Jesus.
Jesus turned around and saw
them following and said to them,
‘What do you want?’
So they said to Him,
‘Rabbi, where are you staying?’
Jesus answered,
‘Come and see.’
So they came and saw where He
was staying, and they stayed
with Him that day.
Now it was about four o’clock in
the afternoon.

Andrew, the brother of Simon

Peter, was one of the two
disciples who heard what John
said and followed Jesus.
He first found his own brother
Simon and told him,
‘We have found the Messiah!’
(which is translated ‘Christ’).
Andrew brought Simon to
Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said,
‘You are Simon, the son of
John. You will be called Cephas’
(which is translated ‘Peter’).

On the next day Jesus wanted to

set out for Galilee.
He found Philip and said to him,
‘Follow me.’

(Now Philip was from Bethsaida,

the town of Andrew and Peter.)
Philip found Nathanael and told him,
‘We have found the one Moses wrote
about in the law, and the prophets
also wrote about – Jesus of
Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’
Nathanael replied,
‘Can anything good come out of
Nazareth?’
Philip replied,
‘Come and see.’

Jesus saw Nathanael coming

toward Him and exclaimed,
‘Look, a true Israelite in whom
there is no deceit!’
Nathanael asked Him,
‘How do you know me?’
Jesus replied,
‘Before Philip called you, when
you were under the fig tree, I
saw you.’
Nathanael answered Him,
‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God;
you are the king of Israel!’

Jesus said to him,

‘Because I told you that I saw
you under the fig tree, do you
believe? You will see greater
things than these.’
He continued,
‘I tell all of you the solemn truth
– you will see heaven opened
and the angels of God
ascending and descending on
the Son of Man.’
There was a wedding in the
town of Cana in Galilee.

Jesus and his disciples were

invited as guests.
But as the wedding feast went
on they ran out of wine.

NOTE:
Wine (Gk. oinos) in the N.T. may
refer to alcoholic or non-
alcoholic.
The context tells what kind of
wine it is.

Mary told Jesus,

‘They have no more wine,’

Jesus replied
"Woman, what does that have to
do with us? My hour has not yet
come."
Jesus’ mother then told the
servants,
‘Do whatever Jesus tells you.’

Six large water jars were there,

each one large enough to hold
between twenty and thirty
gallons (80-120 litres).
Jesus said to the servants,
‘Fill those jars with water.’
They filled the six large jars to
the brim with water.

Jesus told the servants to draw

some water out and take it to the
man in charge of the feast.
The water turned to wine.

The man in charge of the feast

did not know where the wine
had come from.
He tasted it.
Then he called to the
bridegroom,
‘Everyone else serves the best
wine first, and after the guests
have drunk a lot, he serves the
ordinary wine. But you have
kept the best wine until now!’
NOTE: The discernment of the
man shows the wine as non-
alcoholic.
This was the first miracle
performed in Galilee.
Jesus’ disciples saw His glory
and believed in Him.
The Passover of the Jews was
near, and Jesus went up to
Jerusalem.
Jesus entered the Temple Court

He saw that money changers

had set up tables in the Temple.
There were also animal traders
selling doves, oxen and sheep
to be used for sacrifices.

Jesus overturned the tables of

the corrupt money changers.
He overturned the benches of
those selling doves and drove
out all who were buying or
selling.

He said,
"Take these things away; stop
making My Father's house a
place of business."
The Jews then said to Him,
"What sign do You show us as
your authority for doing these
things?"

Jesus answered them,

"Destroy this temple, and in
three days I will raise it up."
The Jews then said,
"It took forty-six years to build
this temple, and will You raise it
up in three days?"

But He was speaking of the

temple of His body.
So when He was raised from the
dead, His disciples remembered
that He said this; and they
believed the Scripture and the
word which Jesus had spoken.
Now when He was in Jerusalem
at the Passover, during the
feast, many believed in His
name, observing His signs
which He was doing.
Now a certain man, a Pharisee
named Nicodemus, who was a
member of the Jewish ruling
council (Sanhedrin), came to
Jesus at night and said to Him…

‘Rabbi, we know that you are a

teacher who has come from
God.
For no one could perform the
miraculous signs that you do
unless God is with Him.’
Jesus replied,
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless
one is born again he cannot see
the kingdom of God.“

NOTE: “Born again” is not a

religion nor a designation. It is
an action to be experienced.

Nicodemus said to Him,

‘How can a man be born when
he is old?
He cannot enter his mother’s
womb and be born a second
time, can he?’
Jesus answered,
‘I tell you the solemn truth,
unless a person is born of water
and spirit, he cannot enter the
kingdom of God.

‘What is born of the flesh is

flesh, and what is born of the
Spirit is spirit.
Do not be amazed that I said to
you,
“You must all be born again.”
[Huwag kang magtaka sa aking
sinabi sa iyo, Kinakailangan
ngang kayo'y ipanganak na
muli. ]
‘The wind blows wherever it will,
and you hear the sound it
makes, but do not know where it
comes from and where it is
going.
So it is with everyone who is
born of the Spirit.’

Nicodemus replied,
‘How can these things be?’

Jesus answered,
‘Are you the teacher of Israel
and yet you don’t understand
these things?
‘I tell you the solemn truth, we
speak about what we know and
testify about what we have seen,
but you people do not accept
our testimony.’

‘If I have told you people about

earthly things and you don’t
believe, how will you believe if I
tell you about heavenly things?

No one has ascended into

heaven except the one who
descended from heaven – the
Son of Man.
‘Just as Moses lifted up the
serpent in the wilderness…

‘… so must the Son of Man be

lifted up, so that everyone who
believes in him may have eternal
life.’
For this is the way God loved
the world: He gave his one and
only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him will not perish
but have eternal life (Jn 3:16).
For God did not send the Son
into the world to judge the
world, but that the world might
be saved through Him (v.17).

"He who believes in Him is not

judged; he who does not believe
has been judged already,
because he has not believed in
the name of the only begotten
Son of God.” (v.18)
