MODERN

CONSTRUCTION
TECHNIQUE
• MODERN CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE HAVE
EVOLVED FROM THE MORE CONVENTIONAL
METHOD TO A LARGE EXTENT.
• MODERN CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE CAN BE
DEFINED AS THOSE THAT PROVIDE GREATER
EFFICIENCY IN THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS,
RESULTING IN INCREASED PRODUCTION, BETTER
QUALITY IN LESS TIME AND LESS WASTE SO
REDUCING THE ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT.
INTRODUCTION
• IN THIS REPORT WE USE THE TERM MODERN
CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUE (MCT) THIS IS BECAUSE
THIS TERM IS INCREASINGLY USED AND IT INCLUDES
NEW TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION METHOD THAT
INVOLVE SOME ELEMENT OF FABRICATION ON SITE.
AIM AND OBJECTIVE

• The first objective is to achieve the modern aspect of the

modern construction throughout the world to aware the
people of the modern construction technique so as to save
time, money and energy.
• The objective of the research is to develop a detailed study of
the current level use of modern construction technique and
market size in different construction like cladding, concrete
walls and floors, flat slabs, precast foundation, volumetric
modules, mivan shuttering, etc.
THIS REPORT HAS LIMITED TOPICS
AS FOLLOWS
• Concrete walls and floors.
• Precast cladding panels.
• Precast flat panel system.
• Volumetric modules.
• Twin wall technology.
• Mivan shuttering.
• Flat slabs.
• Thin joint masonary.
• Concrete formwork.
• Precast foundation.
• Concrete walls have many advantage like decorative
interior and exterior finish.
• It has sound insulation property.
• Retaining wall to hold back the earth.

CONCRETE • Concrete floor are popping up in retail shops, trending

restaurant, offices and homes everywhere.
WALLS AND
• Concrete flooring sometimes referred to as cement
FLOOR
flooring it provide grey colour so is to boring, now
applying texture patterns, S2W cuts, etc can bring new
life to traditional flooring.
CONCRETE WALLS AND FLOORS

• One of the major benefits of concrete floors is there affordability

compared to other flooring options.
• Installing a decorative concrete floor can be quite cost effective,
particularly if you already have a concrete slab that’s ready for
staining, polishing or application of a coating or overlay.
• They enhance the integrity of architecture design.
• They are easy to change, especially if you sell your home the next
owner can place carpet or wood on top of the concrete slab.
• They are great in region with a lot of sand and snow.
• They are good alternative to carpet if you have allergies.
PRECAST CLADDING PANEL

• Precast concrete panel are reinforced concrete unit available in wide

range of colours and finish.
• Finishes can include smooth and coarse grained, grit or sand blasted,
rubber or polished.
• Mixes design to resemble natural stone can also be produced.
• Faster programme time not affected by weather an labour shortage.
• Decrease light problem.
• Produce a high amount of workmanship in factory condition- reduces
potential for accident, addresses on site skill shortage.
• Has a high quality finish that can be left exposed.
PRECAST FLAT PANEL SYSTEM

• Floor and wall unit are produced off site in a factory and
erected on a site to form robust structure, ideal for all
repetitive cellular projects.
• Panel can include services, windows, doors and finishes.
• Building envelope panel with factory insulation and decorative
cladding can also be used as load bearing elements.
• This offers factory and accuracy, together with speed of
erection on site.
VOLUMETRIC MODULUS

• 3D Volumetric construction (also known as modular

construction) involves the three dimensional in controlled
factory condition prior to transportation to site.
• Modulus can be brought to site in a variety of forms, ranging
from a basic structure to one with all internal and external
finishes and services installed, all ready for assembly.
• The casting of modules uses the benefits of factory condition
to create service intensive unit where a high degree of
repetition and a need of rapid assembly on site make is use
highly desirable.
TWIN WALL TECHNOLOGY

• Twin wall technology is a walking system that combines the

speed of erection and quality of precast concrete with the
structural integrity of in situ concrete to provide a hybrid
solution.
• The prefabricated panels comprise to slabs separated and
connected by a cast in situ girders.
• The unit are placed temporarily propped, then joined by
reinforcing and concreting the cavity on site.
TWIN WALL TECHNOLOGY

• Twin wall is usually employed in association with precast

flooring system.
• The panels are manufacturing to exacting tolerance have a
high quality finish and can incorporate cast in cable duct,
electrical boxes, and service ports.
• Installation rate are up to 100m^2/houre.
• Twin wall has excellent fire resistance and acoustic
performance.
MIVAN SHUTTERING

• Mivan is a name of company which invented aluminium

formmwork.
• In mivan shuttering we can cast wholslab, beam, column at
one go making the unit a composite structure.
• One set of mivan shuttering use 200 repeatation.
• Intial cost is high but it is economical for large project.
MIVAN SHUTTERING

• In technical terms, a huge number of houses can be

constructed at much faster speed using Mivan shuttering as
this system of formwork construction runs the structural
system in one continuous pour.
FLAT SLABS

• Flat slab are highly versatile elements widely used in

construction, providing minimum depth, fast construction and
allowing flexible column grids.
• Because this is one of the common forms of construction all
construct member and may other concrete frame contractor
can undertake this work.
• Flat slab are particularly appropriate for areas where tops of
partition need to be sealed to the slab for acoustic and fire
reasons.
FLAT SLAB

• Flat slabs are considered to be faster and more economic

then other forms of construction, as partition head do not
need to be cut around downstand beams and rib.
• Flat slab can be designed with a good surface finish to the
sofit to be used.
• Flat slab provide a most flexible arrangements for a service
distribution as service do not have dirt around the structural
element.
• Thin joint blockwork (thin joint masonry) is a fast,
clean, accurate system for construction using
autoclaved aerated concrete blocks of close
dimensional tolerance with 2mm-3mm mortar joints.
• The increasing demands of the UK construction
THIN JOINT industry for high build quality, greater productivity,
MASONARY improved thermal performance, airtightness and waste
reduction, means that the benefits offered by thin layer
mortar systems are becoming increasingly relevant.
• It provides an alternative to traditional sand/cement
mortar and allows the depth of the mortar to be
reduced from at least 10mm to 3mm or less.

construction.
• It is a formwork which is made up of light weight
concrete.
• It is not use in regular practice because the cost of the
formwork is high.
CONCRETE • Formwork is generally designed according to
FORMWORK guidelines set by various associations or publications
such as the American Plywood Association (APA),
National Design Specification for Wood Construction
(AWC, 2005), and ASCE Design Loads on Structures
During Construction manual.
CONCRETE FORM WORK

• Costs of forming account for about half the value of typical

cast-in-place concrete construction.
• Planning for maximum form reuse can reduce forming costs
and provide an opportunity to win bids in competitive
markets.
• The features that manufacturers of various forming systems
have developed result in more efficient concrete construction.
PRECAST FOUNDATION

• The most popular precast foundation walls come as nearly

finished panels, incorporating insulation and interior studs
ready to accept drywall.
• On site, precast panels go up much more quickly than cast
walls, including those constructed with insulating concrete
forms (ICF). And since there’s no concrete placed on site,
construction can proceed in virtually any weather without
concern about freezing or wet conditions.
• Precast wall erection is also simpler than cast-in-place or ICF
construction and can be done by low-skilled workers with
only one trained lead.
PRECAST FOUNDATION

• Insulated panels come in various configurations, depending on

the owner’s requirements. The exterior face of the monolithic
panel is 2-inch-thick concrete with integral 6 ¾-inch-deep
concrete studs and reinforced bond beams, top and bottom.
Standard wall panels have an insulation value of R-5 from 1
inch of rigid insulation attached to the concrete between the
studs.
• Thicker insulation can increase that to R-21. Manufactured in
the controlled environment of a precast plant, the panels are
typically 8 to 10 feet tall and as long as 20 feet.
Modern construction technique are
provide large number of sustainable,
well designed home in short period of
time.

CONCLUSION Modern construction technique also

afford an opportunity to over come
the skill shortage in construction
industries through factory production.

It provide a home in less time and less
