Introduction
The present study is designed to
analyze different stress coping
strategies among adolescents and
to develop proactive goal oriented
and proactive emotion focused
coping strategies among
adolescents.
 Students need to know there are positive ways to cope
with the stressors in their lives, and being able to
manage stress and cope with stressors may not only
benefit the students, but may also help their academic
performance too. Several studies indicated a need for
coping programmes in schools for adolescents. So
teachers could attend programmes and workshops to
gain knowledge about how to teach their students
positive coping strategies and stress management. For
that it is very essential to identify the coping strategies
commonly used by teachers and students. This is the
rationale to provide training to teachers in proactive
goal oriented and proactive emotional focused coping
strategies. The study thus becomes very pertinent and
relevant in today’s context.
 The study has direct relationship with
 Science,

proactive emotion focused stress coping strategies
and skills through co-operative learning method

The investigator developed proactive goal-
oriented and proactive emotion focused stress
coping strategies and skills through co-
operative learning method and to find its
impact at the higher secondary level.
 Teaching stress management and coping
programmes in schools will help prepare
students with the tools needed to recognize
and manage stress in an effective and
positive manner.
 Students who will get positive coping
strategies through school based programmes
would have a stronger resilience, a higher
self-esteem, and a healthier lifestyle.
Proactive goal-oriented coping action consists of the following
dimensions namely individual responsibility, self-belief to
face the challenges, persistence, direct action, preventive
coping and proactive planning.

dimensions namely emotional self regulation, readiness to
take others’ suggestions and tendency to rely on others.

arrangement for teaching academic and collaborative skills to
small, heterogeneous groups of students. In the present study,
the investigators use Jigsaw method. Jigsaw method is a co-
operative learning technique in which students work in small
groups.
