May the seven holy rivers*
be present in these waters.
(*Ganga, Yamuna, Godawari, Saraswati
Narmada, Sindhu & Kaveri)
Mama upatta
samasta
pàpa kçhayàrtham
éarìràdi éudhyartham,
I take my morning bath
in this holy waters to
purify my body
asmin tìrthe pràtah
snànam aham kariçyè
and remove all my
accumulated sins.
Dhayamo dhavalava
guntanavatȋm
tejomayȋm-naisthikȋm
We meditate on Amma
whose head is covered with a
white garment, who is
effulgent, who is ever-
established in Truth,
Snigdhapanga-vilokinȋm
Bhagavatȋm
Mandasmita-shrȋ-mukhȋm
whose glances beam with
binding love, who is the seat
of the six godly qualities,
whose radiant smile adorns
Her face with
auspiciousness,
Vatsalyamrta-varsinȋm
Sumadhuram
Sankȋrttanalapinȋm
who incessantly showers the
nectar of affection, who
sings devotional songs most
sweetly,
Shyamangȋm
Madhu-sikta-suktȋm
Amritanandatmikamȋshvarȋ
m
whose complexion resembles
that of the rainclouds, whose
words are soaked in honey,
who is bliss immortal and
who is the Supreme
Goddess Herself.

Let’s meditate upon
(he who is) clad in white
and all pervading, with the
complexion of the moon,

get rid off all our obstacles.

This recitation is intended
for my purusharthas*
(*Purusharthas are the main goals
in one’s life: living righteously,
earning wealth, fulfilling desires,
and getting liberated from future
cycle of births)

and the liberation of
departed souls.

Oh consort of Siva
(Parasakti), the auspicious
one, with a crescent moon
on his head, the great
Lord, having a trident
and matted hair,

you alone are all pervading
and appear as this world.
Be pleased oh my lord,
manifesting as the totality.

(ring) which destroys sins
and bestows longevity,
charm, strength and health

In time set into motion by
Siva and Shakti, during the

of first Brahma,

the creator, in the Kalpa*
called Sweta Varaha…
(*1 kalpa = 1 day of Brahma = 4.32
billion human years)
vaivasvata manvantarè,
kaliyugè prathama

...in the Manwanthara* of
Vaivaswata Manu , in first
quarter of Kali Yuga**
(*=306,720,000 years **=432,000 years)
adya sudine, éubha

asmàkam vamsè

in this auspicious day and
place, for those who have
passed away in my lineage...

...who have attained the


world of Pitru’s

and for forefathers and
maternal ancestors...

known and unknown in
both lineages,

and all those who have
been cause of my birth...

amavasee puåyakàlè,
... for them to attain the
immortal pure worlds in
this sacred day without
moon,

paarvana shraadha
tarpaåa karmam adya
I am performing
kariçhyè‘tarpana’
today for the ancestors
from both lineages.

Upon this darbha grass,
Lord Brahma (creator) has
allotted space for offering
food for the departed.

I salute the seat made
of Darbha.
Tadupari tilodakam

Salutations to the offering
of sesame seeds with
water being placed over
that.
asmat kulè mrità ye
cha
gatiã eçhàm na
vidyatè
I invoke all those who
have died in my lineage
whose path is unknown,
aàvahyiçhyètàn
sarvàn
kusà päiçhâè
tilòdakaiã
upon the darbha grass by
this tilodakam (sesame
seeds with water).
màtàmahà kulè mätà
yè cha gatiã eçhàm
na vidyatè
I invoke all those who have
died in the lineage of my
mother whose path is
unknown,

upon the darbha grass

From the beginning of
creation, those who are
born in my paternal as well
as my maternal lineage...

...and all those who served
me as servants, dependants,
workers… from both
lineages, my friends and
associates,
Mitràåi sakhyaã
paéavaécha väikçhàh

animals and trees which
have done me some service
or came to my contact...
Janmàntarè yè mama
sangatàécha tèbhyaã
...or had a communion with
me, and for those who are
with me life after life,

I offer this Pindham.

departed souls),

Who ever have died in
the lineage of my father,
as well as mother,

my father in law and
other in laws, teachers…
Yè cha anye bàndhavà
mritàã yè mè kulè luptà

putra dàra vivarjitàã
...other relatives and friends,
who having no wife
and children
could not get the pindha…
kriyà lòpà hatàéchaiva,
jàtyandhàã-
pangavàstatha
...who died without someone
performing the death rites
for them, who were born
blind,
Virùpà
àmagarbhaécha
or otherwise differently
abled, deformed, or subject
to abortion...
Jñàta-ajñàta kulè
mama
dharma pináò mayà

...known or unknown in my
lineage,
askçhayyam upa-
tiçhâatu
I am offering this
everlasting
pindha of dharma.
asipatra vanè ghòrè
kumbhìpake cha
rauravè
I am offering this pindha
for the deliverance of all
those
teçhàm uddharana-
arthàya
imam pináam
dadàmyaham
who are suffering in
(different types of) terrible
hells.
utsanna kula
koteenaam
yeshaam daata kule
nahi to those
Whoever belongs
billions of lineages that
have been spoiled and have
no one to offer (pindha)
to them,
Dharma pindo maya
datto akshayyam
upa-tisthtatu
I am offering this
everlasting pindha of
dharma.
Ye bandhavah
ye bandhavah anya
janmani bandhava
To all whose who are my
relatives, in this and
other lives,
tesham uddharana-
arthaya imam pindam

I am offering this pindha
for their deliverance.

Here is the sanctified food.

washing the mouth.

washing the feet.

taking a sip.

from billions of past lives…

…living in any of the seven
continents, or any other
worlds in between the
world of the creator and

Kindly forgive all my
shortcomings in chanting
the mantras, doing the
rituals, and in my devotion,

Pitru’s from their sins.
