AC Potentiometer

REPORTER : JAY WILFRED G. GUARIN

Objectives :
 To state the basic requirement of A.C potentiometer
 To recognize the types of A.C potentiometer
 To discuss its Applications
 To differentiate the D.C and A.C potentiometer
Basic Requirement of A.C Potentiometer
 Both the voltage being compared must be equal with respect to magnitude and phase.
 Measure the potentiometer voltage accurately.
 The a.c. source must supply exactly sinusoidal signal.
 Control of stray e.m.f.s in field and coupling circuit.
Types of A.C potentiometer
Polar-Type A.C Potentiometer
Measures the unknown e.m.f. in polar form , i.e. terms of its magnitude and relative phase.

Regular coordinate Type A.C Potentiometer

Measures the unknown e.m.f. in terms of its regular co-ordinates.
Application
 Calibration of Voltmeter
 Calibration of ammeter
 Testing of energy meter and wattmeter
 Measurement of self-reactance of coil
