Introduction : BRIC
• In 2001,James O’Neill ,global
economist at Goldman Sachs,
“Building Better Global Economic
BRICs”.
• The BRICs acronym in the title
referred to
- Brazil
- Russia
- India
- China
• Goldman Sachs argues that the
economic potential of BRICs is such
that they could become among the
four most dominant economies by the
year 2050.
Objectives of BRICS
• To achieve regional
development.
• To remove trade barriers.
• Economic development.
• Optimum use of
resources.
• Build up relationship.
BRICS Summit
1st BRICS Summit
• On 16 June 2009, in
Yekaterinburg , Russia.
• Discussed the current global
financial crises, global
development,and further
strengthening of the BRICs
group.
• “ Action by all governments
and the relevant
International Agencies”.
2nd BRICS Summit
• On 15th April,2010 in Brazil.
• South Africa was invited as
guest by China to join the
BRIC group.
• Name change from BRIC to
BRICS.
• Summit follows Washington
Nuclear Summit.
3rd BRICS Summit
• On 14 April ,2011, in China ,
the BRIC become BRICS
with capital “S” standing
for South Africa.
• Hosted by President of
China Mr. Hu Jintao
on“Broad Vision , Shared
Prosperity”.
• “The 21st century should be
marked by Peace ,
Harmony , & scientific
development”.
• China is South Africa’s
largest trading partner.
4th BRICS Summit
• On 29th March , 2012 in
INDIA.
• Hosted by Mr. Manmohan
Singh.
• Attended by five member
states Brazil, Russia, India,
China, & South Africa.
• “Global stability, Security
& Prosperity”
5th BRICS Summit
• On 26 March 2013 , in
South Africa.
• Hosted by Jacob Zuma.
• Discussed about the
creation of Development
Bank.
• Completed 1st cycle of
BRICS.
6th BRICS Summit
• On 14 July ,2014 , in
Brazil.
• BRICS New
Development Bank
agreement was signed.
7th BRICS Summit
• On 9 July 2015, in Russia.
• Hosted by Vladimir Putin.
• Joint summit with SCO-
EEU.
8th BRICS Summit
• On 15 October,2016 , in

• Hosted by Indian Prime

Damodar Das Modi.

2nd largest labour force.
Improving basic educational achievement.
Improving infrastructure and electrical
capacity.
Expanding technology industry.
CHINA
1.379 billon people.
Broad expansion of educational
achievements.
Rapid economic growth.
3rd largest country in land size.
Need to improve the investment.
SOUTH AFRICA
55.91 million people.
The economy is growing but not fast enough.
Lack of skills particularly in IT.
48% of the population is living below the
poverty line.
Opportunities
BRICS economies could become a much larger
force in the world economy.
The BRICS real exchange rates could appreciate
by upto 300% over the next 50 years.
BRICS maintain policies and develop institutions
that are supportive of growth.
BRICS nations are going to develop a joint bank
within the BRICS nations for assistant themself.
Conclusion
BRICS is a powerful summit…..all 5 nations
contribute immensely to world’s
economy…business , trade , agriculture ,
production , missiles , nuclear inputs.
40% of world population.
China and India- suppliers of manufactured
goods and services.
Brazil and Russia- suppliers of raw materials.
