CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING

Creative problem solving, a type of problem

solving, is the mental process of searching for
a new and novel creative solution to a
problem, a solution which is novel, original
and not obvious.
CPS PROCESS

• Object finding
• Fact findings
• Problem finding
• Idea finding
• Solution finding
• Acceptance finding

Outline
• Idea Finding
• Solution Finding
• Solution Acceptance.
Idea Finding
• Idea generation
• Brainstorming stage:
“Brainstorming is a divergent, idea-
generating process in which judgment or even
praise is deferred in order to help problem
solvers stretch beyond the obvious”
• Quantity is the key factor
• Source of creativity and invention
• New connections are made between ideas
and analogies
Solution Finding
• At this stage of the process, a variety of criteria
are considered and ultimately selected for
evaluating the merit of ideas
• Involves 3 steps:
 Setting a criteria for evaluation.
 The ideas are evaluated.
 One or more best ideas are selected.
• A criteria depending on the nature of the
problem is maintained
• Solutions are selected on the basis of a matrix.
• The best idea needs to meet the criteria.
Acceptance Finding
• The objective is to turn ideas into action through
the development and implementation of an
action plan.
• WH questions should be answered in order to
make the solution more workable. Why? What?
When? How? Where?
• Regular evaluation of the solution helps
problem solvers discover new challenges and
ways of addressing them as the action plan is
carried out
Just in time inventory system itself is
a creative solution to the inventory
problems.
