 Tipe Cekungan Banggai-Sula
Cekungan Luwuk - Banggai bagian barat
terletak di daerah Kabupaten Luwuk, yang
berbatasan dengan laut di sebelah timurnya.
Sementara bagian timurnya terletak di bagian
barat Mendala Banggai-Sula, tepatnya di
bagian barat Pulau Peleng. Cekungan ini
umurnya dapat diklasifikasikan sebagai
cekungan Pra-Tersier yang menyambung ke
Tersier, sementara berdasarkan genesisnya
dapat diklasifikasikan sebagai cekungan
passive margin yang mengalami rifting.
Cekungan ini dikenal sebagai cekungan yang
telah berproduksi minyak dan gas bumi,
terutama gas (Hasanusi drr., 2012).

GEOLOGI REGIONAL
CEKUNGAN LUWUK-BANGGAI
Formasi Matindok, berumur Miosen Tengah,
umumnya terdiri dari batulempung dengan sedikit
batupasir, batugamping dan batubara. Dua lapisan
pasir tipis yang mengandung gas hadir di sumur
Tiaka-1. Serpih dan batubara dalam unit ini
mempunyai potensi sebagai batuan sumber
hidrokarbon (Hasanusi drr., 2012).

Formasi Minahaki, berumur Miosen Akhir,

menindih Formasi Matindok, dan terdiri dari sekuen
campuran klastik dan karbonat pada bagian bawah
dan batugamping yang sangat bersih dan sarang di
bagian atas. Di bagian utara, Formasi Minahaki
ditutupi oleh reefal buildups berumur Miosen Akhir
(Anggota Mantawa). Bagian ini merupakan batuan
waduk gas yang produktif di struktur Mantawa,
Minahaki dan Matindok (Hasanusi drr., 2012)
