THEORETICAL
FRAMEWORK
5 THEORIES

Self-Determination Theory
Attachment Theory
Psychosocial Development Theory
Theory of Cognitive Appraisal
Two Factor Theory
1st Paragraph

“Different theories are involved in the concept of human

behaviors, especially on young children and children going
through adolescence.”

“The researchers presented three theories that are involved in

the research’s variables.

“ These are, the theories on parental impacts on the early stages

of childhood, theory on stress, and the theory on motivation.”
2nd Paragraph

Self-Determination Theory
“Parents, of course, are part of the environment that children
grow up with. This means that the role of parents is very
important to aid to the learning and attitude of a child.”

“Although it does not conclude a direct relation on parental

support to their child’s academic performance, it does give us
some ideas on how it affects the attitude of young children,
which in turn can have a direct effect on their academic
performance later in their lives. “
2nd Paragraph

Attachment Theory
“They say that the trust develops into secure attachment
facilitating the exploration of the environment, this includes
how parents become the children’s first teachers and how they
develop social and academic competence, depending on the
parenting styles used.”
2nd Paragraph

Psychosocial Development Theory

This is also supported by the theory of Erick Erickson (cited by

Gines 1998) where Erickson explained that parent-children
relationship is very important in the development of a child’s
personality.

In contrast, he said that parents who are over protective tend to

raise children who develop an excessive sense of shame and
doubt.

This can have negative effects on their education, especially on

higher education where independence is needed.
3rd Paragraph
Theories on stress

Theory of Cognitive Appraisal

Each child can have different responses on pressure from their

parents and parents can have different ways on pressuring their
children to strive for better, this can result to stress, which can
have negative effects on the children’s academic performance.
4th Paragraph
Theory on motivation
Two Factor Theory
CONCEPTUAL
FRAMEWORK
Narrative
Through the process of interpreting the
answers of the students in survey interview,
the researchers are finding out how the
parents raise or support their children and
how the students show their eagerness in
learning through the guidance of their
parents. After interpreting the answers of
the students, the output shows the impact of
parenting styles to the academic
performance of the selected senior high
schools students of Mapua University.
