● These are important lung
spaces for a city that is
being choked with growth,
population and pollution.
● However, these are the
prime targets for
encroachers.
● From Ranga Reddy district
alone, there are around 34
cases filed in the High
Court by various people
claiming lands in the
reserved forests are their
private property.

Objective

immediate surroundings
● Personal experience of the space
- Suggestions to improve the
current condition of the park

Factors impacting Microclimate of National park region-

10
Factors affecting microclimate: The composition of the soil affects microclimates primarily through how
much water it retains or which evaporates from it. A soil that has a large
● Topography proportion of clay retains more moisture than one that is predominantly sand.
● Soil The degree to which a soil retains moisture affects the humidity and
● Water temperature of the air above it. After heavy rains, the soil can contain a lot of
● Vegetation water and modify microclimates much like a body of water such as a lake.
● Artificial structures
● Aspect refers to
the direction that a
slope faces. This
will determine
how much solar
radiation it
receives, which
in turn impacts
upon
temperature and
shading.
● The steeper the
slope the faster
wind will move
uphill. 11
● Aspect face- South and North
● Hyderabad is a valleyed
topography which channels the
winds to the core
● Heat island effect from buildings
of the surroundings
● The steeper the slope the faster
wind will move uphill.

a steeper slope means that water runs off the slope more quickly, meaning not only that it has
less time to percolate into the soil and so be made available to plants growing there, but also
is more likely to cause erosion of the soil on the slope, particularly in areas of heavy rainfall.

12
● Water bodies to the
North West and
South East to curb
the ongoing hot
winds
● Channels cooled
wind over water and
trees to reduce
regional temperature

13
● Bare soils reflect more light - Hyderabad is sandy
loam
soil and red soil
a silt loam soil that has 30% sand, 60% silt and 10% clay
sized particles.

● Analysis - Loamy soil of the park region has 70% of porous

clay material - hence the park provides considerable
temperature relief with a cooler microclimate

Vegetation : covers the soil and prevent heat loss

and radiation from it, it also regulates the
temperature of the soil, filters dust and other
particles from the air, and can act as a windbreak
or suntrap.

14
● Prevalent Wind direction- South East and
South West
● Cooling effect of the water bodies on the
prevailing hot south west winds
● Drop in the microclimate temperature due to
shade and shadow of canopies
15
● Improves Air quality
● Hyderabad ranks 50
in the International
Pollution Index 2018

The Green Zones initiative

will focus resources on
most impacted
communities in three
areas:
• Reduce existing
environmental pollution
and improve land-use
decisions
• Invest in sustainable,
community-based
economic development
• Increase community
capacity and power
16
Flora of the
park
● Teak (25 years to
mature)

● Rosewood ( about
3 to 4 feet per year
to a maximum
height of 100 feet or
so)

● Sandalwood (30
years to be ready for
● Species native to Hyderabad - Microclimate highly

● Bamboo trees such as teak, bamboo, sandal, picus, palas and

Noise
Impact
Analysis
● Role in noise pollution - Noise
buffer of 5 km to shield the city
from noise pollution
● Noise blocking plants are
especially useful in urban
areas where refracted noise
from hard surfaces, such as
buildings and pavement, are
problematic.
● Evergreen shrubs - year round
noise reduction
● Density
● Broadleaf evergreens are more
● Area covered provides noise buffer
effective than narrow-leaf plants
and confers

Reasons to Plant
more Trees -
Mrugavani Flora
1. Trees can increase property
value
2. Trees can reduce power bills
and save more energy
3. Trees strengthen our sense of
place
4. Trees increase biodiversity
5. Trees lower air temperature in
summer
6. Trees help to reduce flooding
and improve water quality
7. Trees reduce Noise pollution
8. Trees protect us from climate
change
9. Trees improve health and well
being

THE GREEN BELT
1. The government received representations
from locals, builders and industrialists
expressing concern over development
taking a hit in areas falling in the buffer
zone.

1. They wanted the zone radius to be cut

down to 1 km or even up to 500 m. The
State Government decided to pursue the
case with Centre before the final
notification was released.

1. The state government wanted further

reduction of radius to 1 km around the
park to take up various development
projects in villages abetting Hyderabad to
meet the city's future expansion.
