TEAM TRIANGLE
RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION DEVICE

A typical RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system consists of three main

components:
• Tag: It can be attached to any individual or object. Tags consist of a
miniaturized chip that stores the collected data.
• Reader: Readers consist of an antenna for communication and a
transmitter/receiver.
• Middleware: It broadly refers to the software that connects and filters the
data.
WORKING OF RFID SYSTEM
MITIGATION 1: HUMAN TRACKING
MITIGATION 2: EQUIPMENT MONITORING
OTHER APPLICATIONS

Domain Uses

Operations • Estimating drill lengths

• Drill pipe health
• Drilling risers
• Laydown yards

Safety and Security • Search and rescue

• Mandatory checklist equipment
• Worker tracking
• Unauthorized personal detection
• Mustering headcounts
• Detecting a falling worker
• Incidence investigation

Asset Management • Equipment identification

• Identifying unreachable pipes, flanges, etc
• Subsea applications
• Maintenance
• Workflow tracking
• On-site critical information

Administration • IdentificationEmployee time logs and attendance

• Activity logsParking facilities
• Document tracking
• Vehicle tracking
ADVANTAGES

• RFID technology is applicable to disaster

management and prevention situations, as
is evident from the study of the entire
timeline of major Oil & Gas accidents.

• Investment in an RFID chip that costs 25

USD is enough to save billions of dollars
worth of economic as well as human
resources.

• In comparison to the existing maintenance

and surveillance techniques, RFID
technology is the most effective solution.

• It is time that common standards are implemented, thereby helping the

organizations to start having confidence in RFID stability, reliability and
interoperability.
