JYNM Security Inc.

Dedicated to your safety

1.3.3: Biometrics
Noah Martin & Juliana Yagyu
Mission Statement
JYNM is dedicated to ensuring the safety of your client’s information by providing
the best protection with convenient biometrics at an affordable cost.

Goals:

● Create a secure environment for your banking needs.

● Implement top notch biometrics systems to protect your client’s money and
identity.
● Keep your client’s information confidential.
Security plan
CLIENT: The TrustUs Bank

Each one of your clients will enter in their retinal and fingerprint data into the
database upon their next visit. The process will take no longer than a couple
minutes. From then on, they will be required to input the data to enter the account.
This extra layer of biological security will help to prevent identity theft significantly.
Retinal Scanning
Retinal scans measure a person’s retinal blood vessels. One is required people to look at a single point for a
fifteen second duration while an infrared light is shone into the pupil. Retinal scans are up to seventy times
more accurate than Iris scans and twenty thousand times more accurate than a fingerprint scan. They are
the most accurate type of biometrics and are nearly impossible to fake.

Limitations:

● Retinal scanning tends to be expensive

● Scans can be described as uncomfortable by users
● Scans can take fifteen to thirty seconds, they cannot
process multiple people at once
Fingerprint Scans
Fingerprint scans measure the ridges and valleys on fingers. A common method to obtain a fingerprint is
optical scanning and capacitance scanning. We will be using optical scanning in our security plan. Optical
scanning uses a charge coupled device (CCD) or a CMOS image sensor. The sensors determine the lightest
and darkest areas of the image which help find the ridges and valleys. Capacitance scanning is similar to
scans used on iPhones or iPads. Because of this, optical scanning is a better option to protect our bank
users from fraud. Fingerprints are successful 95%-98% of the time, making them extremely difficult to fake.

Limitations:

● Fingerprint scans do not take into account when a person physically changes.
● Fingerprint scans can be costly.
● Fingerprint scans can lead to false rejections or false acceptances, false
acceptances are rare but can take place.
Success Story
We have a very successful track record with banking security. We have worked with
banks such as the Bank of America and Wells Fargo, as well as countless local
banks. We created security plans that have utilized biometrics such as facial and
vocal scans. There have been a significant decrease in identity theft since the
implementation of our security technologies.
Possibility of a Breach
Fingerprints are successful 95%-98% of the time; however, there is a slight
possibility the scans can be faked. On the other hand, retinal scans are among the
most accurate biometric technology. They are twenty thousand times more
accurate than fingerprint scans and seventy times more accurate than iris scans.
The government, FBI, and NASA use retinal scans because of their incredible
accuracy. One could feasibly get past the fingerprint scanning with a silicone mold,
but the retinal scanning would be nearly impossible to breach.
Privacy
Although we will have the bank users fingerprints and retinal scans in a database,
we promise to never use them for any other purpose besides protecting identities at
the bank. Employees will not have access to fingerprints or retinal scans, they will
only proctor the scan. Anyone who goes against these rules is subject to
prosecution under the full extent of the law. A bank user must sign a contract
allowing us to have the scans in our database, as customer satisfaction is our
highest priority.
