Two way

intercom
Design and construction
Introduction
 An internal communication system is a system that basically transfers
information in the form of electrical signal from one spot to the other
within a confirmed location.

 An intercom is a private telecommunication system which facilitates the

exchange of messages between two or more locations where standard vocal
communication would be difficult or impossible due to distance or
obstructions.
 This project two way intercom system consist of station linked
to each using wire.
 It uses full duplex mode process whereby one can transmit
and receive voice calls simultaneously
 Two way wired intercom systems enable sound or speech to
be transmitted in two directions, therefore enabling a
conversation.
 Intercoms are generally compared to fixed microphone or
speaker units which connect to the central control panel.
 In general a communication system requires three things
namely- a transmitter, a propagation medium and a receiver.
 The information to be transferred maybe in analog form in this
case study where voice is the source of information.
Components
 Resistor: An electrical component used to regulate the flow
of current in electronic circuit.
 Capacitor: a component which has the ability to store
electric charge. Also known as condenser.
 Transformer: a transformer is a device that
changes(transforms) the value of the voltage into a smaller
or a greater value depending upon the need.
 Diode: A diode is a two way electronic component that
conducts primarily in one direction.
 Integrated Circuit (IC): IC is a semiconductor wafer on which
many tiny resistors, capacitors and transistors are fabricated.

Advantages
 Intercom and technology:
• Intercoms have benefited from the several innovations of the
IP revolution .Traditionally, an intercom was a gadget with
enhanced audio communication and verbal interaction between
two people at different areas via a door union and room union.
 Incorporate video and audio management:
• Intercoms also give both audio and video management of door
access. This adds more security properties to the intercom
systems.

 Improved communication:

• Intercoms make it possible for employees to carry out effective

communication within the given distance, eases exchange of vital and
important information and make it easy for vital announcements to be
communicated quickly and easily to the right individuals.

 Enhanced security:

• Intercoms help in the screening of people who want to enter either the
business offices or house. It is not possible for any person to go past the door
if the person inside the premises does not verify the person at the front of
the door. With this system, forceful intrusions and other crimes are
prevented.

Disadvantages
 Equipment Portability:

• Wired technology is not portable. The units must be plugged into power
outlets and network ports in order to function which takes more time and
energy.

 Space:

• Wired-technology products, such as 2-WAY INTERCOM, take up more space

than equivalent wireless options. Wires, cables and multiple components
require more desktop space than their wireless devices.
 Employee Mobility:

• Employees are restricted in their work location when using wired

communication. Wireless options allow work not only in conference rooms
but also outdoors. Some employees, such as sales personnel, may require a
wireless unit to perform their work duties. Wired-technology products may
limit the amount and flexibility of work duties.

 Safety:

• The physical requirements of a wired-technology product present some

opportunities for damage not noted in wireless products. Cables can be
damaged by cleaning crews and mislaid wires can cause tripping hazards.
 Power:

• Two-way wired intercom systems must have power to operate. Stormy

weather, electrical problems or a utility-wire cut can cause work to stop if the
only options are wired-technology products. Wireless units with batteries can
continue to function for a period of time after being disconnected from
power. Work stoppage can hurt productivity and customer service.
Conclusion
 The success of this device is a result of careful research,
practical and commitment; also it is a guarantee of a sound
knowledge of electronics component and its implementation
in communication.
 If this kind of work is made a constant practice, the sky will be
limit in the field of electrical electronics, particularly
communication and embedded systems in it.
 However despite of the success of intercoms, now a days
people prefer the use of cell phones and computers instead of
landlines to communicate.
 Customers are increasingly turning to wireless communication
industries, cable and Internet phone companies.
 As wireless carriers have achieved substantial economies of
scale, they have been able to significantly drop their prices,
making it feasible for even the most price sensitive customers
to use cell phones as their primary (or only) form of voice
communication.
 As in this research we saw that this two way wired intercom
system had its limitations overpowering its advantages, hence
it is difficult to say such devices would have any good scope. in
