Introduction

 Soil stabilization is the process of alteration of any

property of soil to improve its engineering performance

 Bitumen Emulsion is the dispersed liquid consisting of

three products
 Water+Bitumen+soil(emulsifier)
(at std temp100-150C)
Literature Review
 Michael(1993) had proposed about bench scale evaluation of asphalt
emulsion stabilization of contaminated soils. In this study, it was discussed
about the application are discussed to the environmental fixation of soil
contaminated by organic contaminants

 Razouki et al (2002) gives an experimental study on granular stabilized

roads. Bitumen was used as a stabilizing agent act as a binder or water
proofing material

 Nikraz(2012)worked on bitumen cement stabilized layer in pavement

construction using indirect tensile strength method. In this study the goal
was to mix bitumen emulsion with soil for upgrading strength and
durability.
NEED FOR STUDY

 Black cotton soils posses low strength and undergo volume

changes making their use difficult in constructions ,to overcome
this situation bitumen emulsion technique can be utilized.

 By using gunny bag strips improvement of shear strength of

soil can be increased.
Materials and Methodology
Materials used are
 Black cotton soil  Bitumen

Experimental Investigation

Specific Gravity:
 It is the ratio of density of soil to the density of water.
 It is needed in the calculation of soil properties like void ratio, degree of
saturation etc.

 Specific Gravity of natural soil is 2.5
