northeast portion of Metro
Manila.

Bounded by:

North - Caloocan City, San Jose


Del monte City
East - San Mateo, Marikina
South - Pasig, Mandaluyong
West - Valenzuela, Caloocan,

Natural Resources - Topography

 Situated on the Guadalupe


Plateau, the City’s topography
is largely rolling with
alternating ridges and lowlands.
The southern part of the City
has a low grade terrain while
the northern half is undulating
that culminates at the
Novaliches Reservoir or La
Mesa Dam where the water
supply for most of the region is
impounded
Natural Resources - Climate

 The climate in Quezon City is


typical of Metro Manila’s,
which has a distinct dry season
from December to April and
wet season from May to
November.
 The annual total number of
rainy days is 153 while the
average temperature is lowest at
20.4° C in January and highest
at 34.9°C in April

 Survey by the Bureau


of Soils and Water
Management (BSWM)
showed that Quezon
City has five (5) soil
types, namely; the
Novaliches Loam
Series, San Luis Clay,
San Manuel Clay,
Burgos Clay and
Escapment

 Quezon City gets its water


from the Metropolitan
Waterworks and Sewerage
System (MWSS) through its
private distribution
concessionaires: Maynilad
Water Services, Inc. and
Manila Water Co.. The west
half of the city is served by
MWSI and the east by MWSI

 As of 2007, the total number


of MERALCO customers is
493,286 of which 444,720
metered connections or
90.15% are residential,
46,948 or 9.51% are
commercial, 1,190 or 0.24%
are industrial and 429 or
0.10% are for streetlights
Mode of Transportation

 In terms of passenger volume


however, public transport
modes (buses, jeepneys,
taxis) were estimated to carry
as much as or 71% while only
29% are on private
conveyances. Furthermore,
57% of public commuters ride
jeepneys, 38% are in buses
5% use the taxi. The Light Rail
Transit (LRT) Line 3 (EDSA), on
the other hand, carries as
many as 800,000 passengers
per day while the LRT Line 2
(Aurora) carries 30,000
passengers per day

Informal Settlers

 Housing the largest number


of informal settlers in the
country, Quezon City has
more than 200,000 families
living in areas considered
danger zones. 80% of which
are informal settlers. Many of
those families live in patched-
up houses made of salvaged
materials they find in dump
sites.

HISTORY

Barangay Pinyahan is originally part of


Central District, Diliman Quezon City. It
emerged as a separate barangay from Central
District in June 22, 1963 under Republic Act
3590 when the latter was divided into two
barangays with Barangay Central as the
other barangay.

It is said that the barangay derive its name


from the local fruit that was widely grown in
the area. “PINYA” or Pineapple.
