Objectives

• For accurate classification of the gender through fingerprint ,quality of

obtained finger print images enhanced using pre-processing algorithms and
Extracting features by Implementing the biometric features extraction
algorithms then classification is performed with the application of Neural
Network (NN) technology.
Introduction

• A person can be identified by number of features such as face, height, body,

shape, gait, voice etc. Fingerprints are one of the most mature biometric
technologies and are considered legitimate proofs of evidence in courts of
law all over the world . Because of their uniqueness and consistency.

• A fingerprint is epidermis of finger consist of the pattern of interleaved

ridges and valleys. Fingerprint minutiae patterns of ridges are determined as
unique through the combination of genetic and environment factors.

• The work has been motivated by studies in anthropometry, biometric

characteristic, and pattern recognition suggesting that it is possible to
distinguish between male and female fingerprints.
Problem Statement
• Person identification using fingerprint algorithms are well sophisticated and are
being established all over the world for security and authentication. Very few
attempts have been made to classify the gender from a fingerprint[2]. It is
helpful for anthropologists to classifying gender from the fingerprints that obtain
from mined articles and also for crime investigators to minimize the rage of the
suspects.
• To improve the performance of fingerprint gender classification more, the
biometric features use like
 the ridge count, white lines count, ridge count asymmetry,
 minutiae map(MM)
 orientation collinearity maps(OCM),
 and orientation map (OM) for pattern type,
 2D wavelet transform (DWT),

Related Work
• In literature Fingerprint based ender classification is done by ridge count and
finger size , JenFeng Wang, et al, “Gender Determination using Fingertip Features”
used ridge count, ridge density, and finger size features for classification. [2]
• S. Falohun et al [4] the research work implemented a scheme that estimates person
age-groups as well as gender using fingerprint study. Machine is trained with
DWT+PCA combined features using Back Propagation Neural Network for
classification
• Shivanand Gornale [5] in research work Gabor and DWT based features were used
for the fingerprint gender classification into male and female. In training the
system the 74 peoples of various age and gender group fingerprint images were
collected and recorded in database.
• Dr. P. E. Sankaranarayanan et al [9] The paper has used Principal Component
Analysis (PCA) and 2D Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) features collectively,
to evaluate a human age with fingerprint
Proposed Work

• To Enhance the finger print images quality, the work implements

various improved algorithms like–
 Segmentation
 Normalization
 Orientation estimation Ridge frequency estimation
 and Binarisation and Thinning etc.
• These image enhancement algorithms will issue precise and accurate
pixel pattern for further work.
Proposed Work (Cont..)
Proposed Work (Cont..)

• To get the best feature vectors readings, the work implements four
advanced feature extraction algorithms like, six levels of 2D Discrete
Wavelet Transform(DWT) decomposition, and fourth ridge count, and
various map readings. These four feature vector readings will be obtained
accurate as maximum[11]
• Then all the combined vectors within the database will then be allowed to
pass for unsupervised training mode. It uses clustering with neural
network technique within the combined vector database. This clustering
will create the two classes, one male and another female with the
calculation of threshold values using any one of the technique centroid or
average. The clustering scheme is illustrated in figure-2 below.
